Hi Tammy,

I wouldn't spend the 1300!! that is too much. How old is he again? I would run his birthdate through ameridex, get a list of all people born on that date! it is something like 30 dollars. I would then check off all of those who you can--all females listed, then people who can be accounted for in birth announcements, and in places that you know can't be possible. I can help too....you can see my email addy here? let me know..and I will send it to you--

Renee

Renee: In Georgia it is not only legal, but encouraged to change identifying information on the adopted child's birth certificate. For example, if you are adopting one of a set of twins, the amended bc would read "single birth". It is okay to change the birth month and day, but not the year (many change to "gotcha day" or if a birthday is close to Christmas they may move it. My godchild's a-parents moved her birthday from October to July so she could have swim birthday parties AND so she could get in school a year earlier. The county of birth is usually changed to the county of residence of the adopting couple, as it is easier for them to remember where they lived than where the child was born when requesting birth certificates.

Mary was really nice to me and verified that the info I had did match what was in my records over the phone. My problem is that my CI I hired found when my records were opened appeared to be falsified and suggested I go to the judge directly and ask for a copy of my files because they just sent a synopsis of everything and he felt there could've been a clue missed. The judge did give me my files. He also said that he wished the news would get the word out about the registry as well.

I called Mary back and talked to her and she said my father wasn't mentioned, there was nothing in my file to identifiy my mother, no DOB or her parents names, they couldn't find her birth certificate and the address on my original BC was a White Castle and she agreed that it was false as well but said that unless my mother could come up with the false info that the registry wouldn't help us. We're not sure if it was my mother or the lawyer who falsified it. If my father were to submit something, even if he had all the info correct, they couldn't give it to him because he wasn't listed so the registry is useless to me.

I asked the judge for my original BC and he gave me the order for it since it was all lies anyways and when I went to get it Mary freaked out. I had the long form from my adoptive BC and she freaked out that I had that. She ended up taking it to the Attorney General who in turn filed papers to get the order resended, which he did. So now I just wish I had the money to hire a lawyer to go in and fight it since the Attorney General used the laws that didn't even apply to the years my adoption took place.

Mary can be really nice but she can also put a wall that goes against Indiana Law and there doesn't seem to be a thing you can do.

Have your friend e-mail her. I did, and found she got back to me within a few days.

Wow. Disappointing. Does your friend know the agency she/he was adopted from? My non-id info from them was much more comprehensive!

Needing help....

I have registered with the state and have gotten my non- identifying info, but I sent in paperwork for identifying info 8 weeks ago and I have not heard anything from Mary Hinds. Is there someone else I can talk to?

That is one sore subject. There is no hope for that woman. I am sorry to say .... alll end up dealing with her. Just kiss butt! Sorry to say that but that is why the laws have to change. One person can not be in charge of it.

E-mail her. I did (with a question) and she responed in a few days, and let me know my information was on the way. Some have had bad luck with her, I've found her helpful. I think they need to extend the time they tell you it will take. It seems to be getting longer, and longer. If your luck is anything like mine, now that you've posted this, it will be in the mailbox!

Mary Hinds

I received my nonID info back in 93' from Mary I think it came back in a few weeks. The medical info i was looking for was fairly incomplete. No known diseases were checked on the form, hand written in other was Maternal Grandfather Paralized of Unknown Cause. This has always been curious and i'm not sure how to use that info as a lead in my search. I have begun searching again with a new commitment to finding more info. I sent her another form 3 weeks ago and I'm waiting my reply. I stumbled on this blog and i'm now a little worried about the information I had received.

Confused...

I was born on Feb. 21, 1984 in Evansville, IN thats what my birth certificate says but, my adopted parents went to Evansville to get me after I was adopted. Why??? I was adopted through the "Childrens Bureau". Anyone with any info?

I was adopted through the Children's Bureau also, but in 67. At that time, from what I understand, they only adopted within a certain radius of where you were born. My parents weren't even sure I was born in Indy, they were told it was from within a 50 mile radius of there.

You can contact them for your non-id also. They charge a fee (I think it was $100) but I recieved a TON of information, including a spot where they did not white out my bmom's name. They sent me all the social workers notes about every visit with my birthparents, their family, and a detailed medical history of everyone to that point including physical descriptions, hobbies, careers etc... (not just my parents, but aunts, uncles, cousins, etc..)

Good luck finding an answer.
