Do we have much of a chance?
We have just begun talking about adoption but are finding the process and the long wait daunting. Plus, I'm 37.5 and my husband is 39.
I don't know if we'll ever get our little girl as we haven't even begun the process yet. Do you think we have a chance or will we putting our sons and ourselves through an emotional ordeal without getting our daughter in the end? We are naturalized US citizens from New Delhi originally. Please be honest rather than saying "Go for it" just because it sounds good. Thanks in advance. ![]() |

Hope
Everything I have read seems to indicate that India works very hard to place it's children with parents of Indian descent. It seems the process is much easier. We are not NRIs and are just beginning the process to adopt from India, but from what I understand, with two sons you should have no problem adopting a girl and being NRIs should be a plus. It seems you should get younger children and have preference in the system.
This is all just based on what i've read, but check out the links I just posted in the post titled "Here is some help" Best of luck to you! Sandwich in Wi |

We are 41/49 and we have two boys 17 and 11. And we are in the process of adopting a little girl from Ashraya, Bangalore. We started our process Oct. 2002 and we have completed our homestudy and it has been sent to the agency in Seattle for further process. Get ready for some paperwork..if you are not organized enough, it will take a toll on you. Even when you buy a house, you don't have to go through so much paper work. Don't let the wait dishearten you. Think of the life and love you are going to give the little girl. They have told us that it could take another 6 to 8 months. But I guess if you know some gazetted officer in the government, papers might move fast (my guess). We are also waiting patiently but sometimes it is depressing too. Knowing that we have picked our child yet she is not with us gets us down. But I am praying for a miracle that God would intervene and hasten this process. You can always write to me at couswed@yahoo.com and I will be happy to share your anxities. Keep praying that is the key.

If you are from New Delhi originally, my understanding is that improves your chances greatly. NRIs seem to have a very different, much faster process and better chance of a baby referral (as opposed to an older child). As for your ages, various agencies and the CARA website might help answer that. Good luck!
