Hi All,
We are a couple of Indian origin and I hope to become a US citizen this year. We want to start the adoption process as soon as I get citizenship. I have talked to a few adoption agencies and it seems like wait time fo India is 18-24 months. I was wondering if it is possible to work with an agency here, get the homestudy done and then take that homestudy report to India and adopt from any orphanage of choice there OR do I have to go through the agency and go through the wait period? Many thanks -Taru |

You do have to go through a U.S. agency, since you are not living in India.
Read the rules on the website of CARA, India's Central Adoption Resource Administration, the branch of the Indian government that regulates adoptions. Sharon

Thanks for replying. I understand that I need to get homestudy done from US agency but do I need to adopt only from on orphanage connected through that agency or can I adopt from any?

Your agency will govern where you can adopt.
