very confused

I hope someone out there can help us. I will begin that we are on the LONG wait for China with a LID of early 2007. We have a pretty good understanding of the adoption process for China but uncertain for other countries. I happened on an agency works with an international agency with CARA for Indian adoptions. We contacted that agency about 3 and 5 yr old siblings that were available from India. The agency put them on hold for us as we await their medical clearances. I am very confused about this process. Other than the usual paperchasing problems, what should we expect? My husband and I are not of Indian descent. Is there anyone else out there that can fill us in on what to expect. Thanks

Expect to wait. First the children will have to be cleared for International adoption, then CARA issues a NOC, basically Indians cannot be issued a passport unless they have a No Objection Certificate (NOC). That in itself will take a couple of months. Then expect another 6 months or so for the paperwork to go through the Indian courts. Once everything is in order, you will be cleared for travel to get your children, then go to New Dehli for US Immigration clearance; it takes a couple of days there.

Sorry about your LONG wait for China. Some dear friends of ours our experiencing the same.

Great! I hope everything goes smoothly. There is a nice blog on a family who adopted siblings and their trip to India to pick them up. I think you will enjoy.
