How long will the wait be
Hi,
I have my homestudy ready and processing paperwork with USCIS. After the dossier is sent out to CARA how long does it take to get a referral. Both me and my husband are US citizens but of Indian Origin. Also, the agency I' am working with is not having any working relationships with agencies in India. I' am a little worried about that. Will CARA take care of my application if my US agency does not directly contact an Indian agency? Thanks Richa |

I believe to adopt from India, you have to be working with a CARA approved agency. There is a list somewhere on line that I have seen. Sometimes agencies work with other agencies that do have working relationships in India and work together. This must be the case. How else could the adoption take place as CARA will issue NOC, but I don't think they do the work of the local agency.

Richa - We got back in March with our son. We are both US citizens too; our agency told us to apply for the OCI card that puts you on par with resident Indian families. Our agency did have a relationship with CARA and specific houses there. It is a long, trying, and expensive process and they always tell you to expect delays. It took about 6 months to get the referral once we submitted the dossier, and another 10 months to travel. PM me if you want more info.
