Question Adopting a child fom India to the UK

Hello all,
I'm a single woman of indian origin and have only just starting the adoption process and have been searching the internet for useful information.
I have contacted my local council. which will look after the adoption process on the uk side. They've told me I have to find my own agency in india that will look after the india side of things from the legal side through to finding a suitable child.
During my search, i have found that there are plenty of agencies in the US that do the india side for you - such as Dillion international and WACAP. I can't seem to find similar such agencies in the UK. Does anyone know of any such organisations or failing that, any in India that are reputable.
Thanks
Mamps

The Indian government agency called CARA -- for Central Adoption Resource Agency -- requires foreign prospective parents to use a CARA-accredited agency or government bureau in their home country.

The website of CARA lists the agencies accredited by CARA. Go to http://www.cara.nic.in/carahome.html. Click on "Associated/Recognized Agencies". Then click on "Enlisted Foreign Agencies". Scroll down till you get to United Kingdom. The contact information for the British central adoption authority is listed.

Hi
Thanks for the advise.
Actually, this is what i have already done, the UK link then passes you onto a link to my local borough and these are the people that will organise my home study and UK legals, but i have spoken to them and they say i have to find the agency in india/uk that will deal with the india legals and finding a child for me. They cannot recommend any agencies either.
Does anyone have any experience of adoting from india to the UK?
Thanks
Mamps

Hi there!
I'm afraid I can't actually help you right now, but I too am hoping to adopt a child from India to the UK. So far I only know what Sharon told you but I'll let you know if I find out any more information
