anxiety disorder/on anti-deppressant

I am wondering if anyone knows India's views on anxiety disorders & the use of anti-deppressants.

Hi,
India does frown upon use of anti-depressants or any mental health history of that sort. But don't worry, it can be worked out so that they don't include that information in your homestudy. That's what they did for us. My SW just made sure I was doing what was needed and what was healthiest for our family, but just didn't write it up in the homestudy. HTH!

I didnt adopt from India, I adopted from Russia. It may be a whole different game but I was glad that I was honest with my homestudy agency and Russia about my condition. We were grilled a bit about it in court, but I think the judge realized that I would be a good mom.
I would even start to feel more anxiety during my trip that I kept it a secret. I worried heaven forbid I didnt feel well or I would need a medicine change during my adoption travel. That's why I was honest.
I would ask the social worker at your adoption agency if you should be honest about your condition or not. My adoption agency said they could lose credibility with the Russian govt. if prospective parents lied about their medical conditions.
I wish you the best, I hope India isnt restrictive. There are many folks with anxiety disorders who make great parents.

We went all the way to referral with our India adoption and then it had to be put on hold because I got pregnant. Our agency had a policy that you couldn't be pregnant and accept a referral at the same time. Anyway, we were honest with our HS worker about the anxiety issues, but then our India program coordinator called and spoke with us and our HS worker about how India does not accept parents who have a mental health history. So they decided to take it out of our HS. We didn't ever lie. I agree, it's best to be honest with your US case workers but sometimes other countries have restrictions that you have to work around. Good luck!
