Family considering India adoption seeking guidance
Hello. My husband and I are considering adoption from India. We are 38 and 37 years old, have two biological sons, ages 7 and 3, and my husband is of Indian heritage, but American citizenship. We live in California. We are interested in adopting a toddler, preferably a girl, around the ages of 2 or 3 years.
We have just started thinking about this and have no friends or family who have adopted from India. So we are seeking advice, especially regarding agencies and/or orphanages. Any positive (or negative) recommendations would be greatly appreciated -- please send me a private message directly on this issue. Also, any thoughts on whether our family situation (parents approaching 40 with two biological children) would make this particularly difficult, or whether my husband's Indian heritage would make it easier, would be appreciated. Thank you all! EGW |

India adoption
I am so surprised to read your message as I am 38, my husband 38 and we have two sons, 3 and 7, and are hoping to adopt from India. We are located in Southern California and are trying to locate an agency. I would certainly like to hear about positive experiences that others have had with agencies. Have you been to any of the informational meetings? Thanks.

Hi! I see you posted a while back -- sorry I have not checked in a while. What a coincidence that our situations are so similar (we live in the Sacramento area). I have been very slow to get the process going as things got crazy here around the holidays, but intend to get back to the research in the next couple of weeks. I would love to share information as we gather it. The only agency I've requested information from so far is Holt International (we are considering a 2-3 year old adoption), but I am also looking into programs by Wide Horizon and a couple of others.

Adoption from India
We have just started thinking about adoption from India. I would like to hear about experiences of others who went through the process. I would like to know about good (and bad) experiences with agencies and also financial assistance available for adoption fees.
What exactly do they do in homestudy? I have a million other questions. I would greatly appreciate any help/advise/pointers. ![]() |

Hi! I sent you a PM about this.
Since your husband is of Indian descent, the process will move faster for you. Also, since you are not looking for a very young child, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Let me know after you read my PM if I can help anymore!

My husband and I are similarly situated--I am of Indian origin and he is not, but we are both US citizens. Any advice on recommended agencies, ones to watch out for, etc. would be much appreciated. We are aged 36 and 32 and would like to adopt infants--boy and girl (preferably biological siblings). Thanks!
