Update Aug 1st
In a few days it will be a exactly 4 months since our son has come into lives. Some days when he laughing and smiling I think the world is perfect and there's no where else I'd rather be. Then there are other days when the stress level is so high I dread coming from work or even come early because my wife is having difficulty handling him. On the diarrhea front, our doctor is away so we don't have the results from his latest stool test but I would term he about 50% normal. His current routine is that he goes mostly 3-5 times a day and his stool ranges from watery to applesauce to close to normal and goes usually in the morning and strangely right AFTER dinner.
Currently he going through a bout of cough and runny nose while his asma changes with the weather. He also has been having temper tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants. I realize now how hard the first year is going to be. Sorry for making this thread my own mini blog but I needed to express my feelings. Last edited by downunder : 08-01-2006 at 05:07 PM. |

Update Aug 9th
Our doctor finally returns from vacation and tells us his stool test from 2 weeks ago was negative for both items. We don't know how to feel as he still has diarrhea but at least this is the first test in a while, that the tape worm didn't showed up. Now I get a call from the doctor again saying a second stool test we requested from our family doctor while he was away turned up positive for both Giardia and the Tapeworm. He also said he consulted the Infectious Diseases unit about our case and they recommend a longer dose of both antibiotics. They also said he could be a "chronic carrier" of both parasites, so a positive might be OK if we can get his stool back to normal.

Update Sept 22 - I have been getting some PM asking what's going on so I thought I would post a update.
So far no answer to what ills our son, what we do know he's not gaining weight and height. The powerless of the situation is daunting and stressful. We went to the best hospital in the country, the Hospital for Sick Children in the infectious diseases unit. They said it might not be the tapeworms and Giardia which is causing the diarrhea. For now we are trying a new drug - Nitazoxanide, since after 5 rounds of trying the standard medicines were not working. They are also going to do all new blood work and have made a appointment to see a Gasrogist for him. At 9 months my son, my son abandoned with e-coli, TB & Kidney problems. They doctors gave him a very little chance of surviving and he did ! Please God he has suffered enough, please let him lead a new and healthy life. |
