Question Re: an adoption from India
Hello,
One of the women I work with told me yesterday that she would like to look into adopting from India. She is Indian herself and will be traveling over there in a few months. She was telling me that she heard that single woman can not adopt. She said that she would look into things when she goes over there but does anyone know how she could maybe look into things right now? Do you think it is possible to adopt from India as a single woman? Would it be easier since she is Indian herself? Any help would be appreicated. Thanks

I'm a bit out of touch with the process right now, because it's a few years since I volunteered in India. I do know that single women can definately still adopt from India (I know 2 who have come home with their kids in the past few weeks), and it is easier if you are NRI. Hope that helps a bit. Chloe.

Yes - single parents (moms) can adopt from India
Hi-It's all in which adoption agency you choose. CARA (Central Adoption Resource agency) in India says that they will approve single mom adoptions, but some agencies in US don't deal w/ single moms. Check out Maps, International in Maine. They had a good program with a knowledgeable program director (Jenny)
My husband and I just adopted a little girl last April (2005) Having Indian origin definately helps!!! |

May I suggest that most of the questions asked on this forum can be answered by simply looking in the site! It tells you all the requirements of every country, just look around a bit.
