Thinking about India

We have two great sons adopted from Korea. We are thinking abouta third adoption but we have gotten too old for Korea and we are considering India. There is a feeling that India is "calling" us. We are wanting to request a girl. Can anyone give us some input on your experience with India? We are looking at things like cost, time frames, health of children, age requirements or any other info. Also do any of your families have children from more tham one country?
Thanks MLH

You might be "too old" for India too. The requirements are that the youngest parent not be any more than 40 years older than the child. Because children in India aren't made available for international adoption until they are about 9 months old, realistically, that means you can't be older than 41 if you want the youngest child possible. Generally speaking kids are coming home no younger than 15 months. The time frame varies widely--Our adoption (completed two years ago) took 18 months from the day we walked into the agency until the day she was placed in our arms (she was 18 months old--it took 8 months from referral to get her home). Someone else I know took almost 2 years.

You mentioned health. My daughter is absolutely healthy and was home 4 months before she even caught a cold. She's athletic and was never delayed at all. She's bright and funny and developmentally on target.

It looks like we are "too old" for India as well. I will turn 40 this year and hubby is 45.
