Only Dreaming?
My husband and I are not NRI, we are 32 and 27, we have three children born to us. We "sponsor" two completely orphaned infants living with a pastor and his church in a Christian mission in Orissa. Do I have any chance of ever adopting these kids? I am willing to jump through hoops and wait for years, but I want to know if I should resign myself to being the most supportive "sponsor" I can be, and meeting them when they are adults or if I should keep the dream alive of one day getting to parent them. Thank you for all replies.

Christina,
Not all orphans in India are eligible for international adoption. They must be at an orphanage on the CARA web site http://cara.nic.in/ . In addition, they should have received VCA clearance. Your best bet would be to talk with the director there and find out if there's a chance you could parent these little ones. Good luck. |

NRI=Non-resident Indian (a person of Indian descent, living in a country other than India)

Generally speaking NRI is an Indian citizen living abroad. In other non -adoption aspects in India, I get treated as a "foreigner" ( I am a naturalized US citizen but was born in India).
Going with Spay pets' description would I get treated as an NRI or as an International Adopter? Would there be a difference between the two? Do NRIs get preference? Thank you, |
