Single older adoption--receptive agencies?

Hello all!

I am ready to begin another adoption process. I have aged out of the agency I originally went through although I have not passed the upper limit for India as a country. Can some older single ladies let me know who they found receptive to adopt from? I would like to do siblings or unrelated children that could be adopted together.

ageing out

Hi, Terri -- wish I could help! I am with an agency that worked with numerous I think like TEN) orphanages in India, and we "aged out" of several of them ... even though we were not aged out of our agency, itself! We ended up switching to their Guatemala program. I have a 3.5 y/o from India and wanted my second child to share her cultural heritage, but it was not to be. As one SW said, "Do you want a child, or a country?"

Anyhow, be sure to check around with several agencies -- I know there is at least one out there to accomodate you!

Good luck to you!

Older single women adopting

Terry,

I adopted through Plan in Oregon and was 43 when I started. But, my daughters were older, 7 and 8 y.o. bio-sibs, when assigned to me. God will direct you to the right place. Do agencies make an age exception for special needs placements? Just a thought.

Kathy

I forgot that part!

Terri, Crow is right, sometimes if you accept referral of special needs or older kids an agency will make you eligible for a waiver. And special needs can be quite variable -- from minor to major. I was 44 at the time of adopting our daughter who is (WAS) special needs due to a birth injury for which she has been successfully rehabilitated.

I might also mention, I am now pushin' 47, and adopting another child, this one from Guatemala which is very flexible on parental age ... but kinda picky on the single part (must state you are not homosexual, and provide evidence of a male role model).
