Hooray!
As for the ticket part, you have to wait until the paperwork comes from India and submit it to INS (or whatever the intials are) to get the visa--I'm foggy on the details, but I do know that it took two weeks for the decision to be typed and another week or so for it to get to the US (original documents). We flew on Northwest on their adoption fare, which allows you to change the tickets if you need to--so I think you can make reservations but they might need to be changed.
I'm so excited for you!! India is facinating. I can't wait to go again someday. Start packing now!! |

We're not filing the I-600 here. We're going to file it in Delhi...so all we have to wait for is the guardianship document right? I sooooo want to be there on her birthday, July 31st. I'm wondering if there's any way possible.

I _think_ that means you just have to get the document. Check with your agency.
It's possible that you might be able to be there by July 31. It's also possible, I think, to travel and get the documents there, though that means being in India longer -- but double check. I know that when we had a delay in the documents arriving from India (long story) we decided that we were going to get our baby on Mother's Day even if it meant waiting longer in India to sort out the visa stuff. Fortunately the paperwork arrived and INS turned it around almost instantly (advantage of living in a small state). |

YEAH!!!!This is wonderful news.If you are filing for visa all you should have to wait for is gaurdianship papers but check with your agency first.I do know if you are filing for her Visa yourself it cuts a few weeks off.We did it the long way as my husband was flying alone and wanted to make only 1 destination.I am so happy for you.Congratulations.I am sure you will make it before her birthday.

Congratulations! She'll be in your arms soon.
We filed the I-600 in Delhi and it took us all of 1 1/2 hours at the Embassy and we had her visa in hand. Make sure your facilitator sets an appointment for you. We got there and the line was amazing long. Our facilitator took us to the front, we went into a waiting room with about 20 other families, all Indian, and we were the first ones called. They asked limited questions, mostly spoke to Yarana in Hindi and then we went to another window where they asked for three years of notorized federal tax returns, we then paid the $335 fee in US currency, and they gave us her visa. It was amazingly quick and simple. Just make sure you have all the paperwork in order. Your agency should tell you everything that they may ask for. I had a lot more paperwork than was needed, but apparently you never know what they might want. Also, our facilitator had arranged for a car and a wonderful young man as our driver. She uses him for all her families. If you need any information about hiring a car and driver, I'm sure I could get a contact for you. Also, be prepared for India in June or July. Certainly, when you have no choice, as we didn't, you'll go as soon as they say to come, but let me tell you about the heat. You'll most likely be there in the mist of the monsoons, which had already started in southern India when we were in Delhi a few weeks ago. The flight is long, the temperature and humidity is horrible, but when you see her beautiful face smiling at you, and you wrap your arms around her for the first time, you'll forget everything and this child will be yours forever. It is truly amazing. Good luck, best wishes and have a safe and enjoyable journey! Melanie |
