India Adoption
The way Adoption is being phrased from India is first Hindis or Families from India are given preference, then people who are Indian, then Internationals.
Page 10 and 11 of Adoptive Families magazine has this explanation. It's been recent since the Hague Treaty was signed. I adopted as a Single Caucasian woman from New Delhi before this recent ruling. My Daughter is everything you could ask for in a Daughter! The Guardianship/Adoption experience was incredibly awesome! For Internationals to Adopt they are saying the wait is incredibly long! I would be interested in Sponsoring you to be a Citizen?

Thanks for your reply Julianna. I can't apply for citizenship now because i just got my permanent resident status. There is a wait period i think 5 years. After which i can apply for a citizenship. Thats long time. Do you or anyone else out there know on how i could adopt earlier than that?
Anybody in similar situation as me? Thanks |

Citizen
Unfortunately, the US government allows only citizens to adopt internationally. Those with permanent resident status must wait until they are citizens, I'm afraid.

JuliannaTeresa - no offence meant but the word is Hindu for the religion - Hindi is the language spoken in India. So it would be Hindus who get preferential treatment by law when it comes to adoption in India.
Dee - visit http://www.serve.com/ichild/ - this site has quite a lot of info on adoption in India. Good luck! Karen (in India)
