My friend was adopted when he was 12, he is now 23 years old and wants his adopted parents last name. Does anyone know how he wpuld go about doing this, or how much it would cost him (ball park figure). http://is.gd/hDp6ct

I can understand why he would want you to adopt him in that situation. So, yes, the bio dad will need to relinquish his rights. If he doesn't, I'm not sure what options you'll have. Definitely a call to a good adoption attorney is in order. . . . . Good luck.

If you are having any doubts, don't sign. Adoption is a permanent solution to what sounds like some temporary problems for you. Take your time, just because you CAN sign after 72 hours doesn't mean you HAVE to. Take baby home and parent for awhile. Your family will have to accept your decision and as far as money goes, don't let that enter your mind, money is the worst reason to let your baby...

My advice is be prepared at the start of the conversation. STBAD didn't want a new last name due to siblings. But then she wanted a whole new name. I should have already have had a couple whole names picked out. She did not want to use her nick name as anything but a nickname. I was not prepared for that twist.
