Changing I-600A to new country
Does anyone know what the proceedure is to change the country on the I-600A when you've already been approved? My husband and I were planning to adopt from Ukraine, but with all of the confusion there we're thinking of switching to Russia. I hate to have to re-file and wait for months for a new approval if it's not necessary. I called USCIS and they said I could file form I-824 but when I read the instructions for the form, it doesn't sound like it's the right thing to do. The last thing I want to do is screw up my INS approval.

We did the same thing. I sent a form(forgot which one)
requesting to change the country, then recieved a letter from them asking for an updated homestudy to show we are apporved from adopting from the country of our choice. so we mailed it, and less than 10 days, we got the updated 171H. It took much less time than I thought it was going to. I live in Ca and sent to SF office. good luck |

Thanks for the info! I feel a whole lot better knowing someone else has gone through the same thing without a whole lot of trouble!

Yes, it is a I-824 that must be filled out to change countries. Just wanted to let you know.

Thanks for letting me know. Now I can get the form filed and work on trying to choose an agency.

Hi there! We just renewed our I-600 for China, and are thinking about adopting from Ecuador now first (since the China wait is so long). Do we have to pay the $340 when we file the I-824 or are we exempt from that becuase of the one time freebie? (We used the freebie to renew this time for China, too)
Thanks!

We did the same thing
We were able to just send in a change form that my agency helped us fill out, we got the one free change of country and are almost complete. Remember to always keep copies of everything though, as immigration lost our first set of paperwork and we had to resubmit everything.
Funny, we switched from Ukraine to Russia as well!! Good luck!!! |
