I 600A Time frame????

Okay...we just had our first homestudy visit; next one is next monday. Now that I am over the "we're going to fail!" nerves, I begin thinking of timeframes in my mind. Does anyone know who long the I 600A takes to process in Oregon???

Any help would be great...or any timeframes from other states: does it vary significantly?

I don't know about Oregon, but I do know processing time varies widely depending on which office you use.

You may want to start a new thread called something like
USCIS Atlanta Timeframes?

Obviously, you wouldn't use Atlanta, haha. The offices do vary a lot in their processing times.

Our Atlanta office is fairly fast, or at least, they were the times I had to deal with them. We ended up having to refile on the same adoption because our process took so long (and because I did I-600 first thing).

Anyway, I can tell you our time frame... things seemed to take forever because in our State (alabama), the approved homestudy has to come from the state dhr (or whatever they call it). This took FOREVER our first go-round (made more complicated because my fingerprints going through the state for background check were never clear enough to go through). BUT, once the USCIS office received the homestudy, it took about 10 calendar days for us to get our approval in the mailbox.

The second time, it took about 7 days to get the form back in the mail, from the time the office received our approved new homestudy AND we were denied an appointment because the Embassy did not have a copy of the updated cable... DO NOT LET YOUR USCIS APPROVAL EXPIRE).

Also, our Atlanta office has a GREAT information email that they send regarding all sorts of situations (it is a long document), so I would suggest trying to see if your office has something similar. It is an autogenerated email, so if you can find your their address by going through the uscis website, that might be helpful.

Good luck,
D.

ddhuab, our timeframe with Atlanta was really long. It took us 10.5 weeks last summer and I've heard of others taking even longer. I did hear that they've picked up a bit more recently.

So, highchair, I guess I would say your best bet is to ask for recent experience with the office you're applying through.

Our second time around was in December 2006. But we were sort of flagged for a rush because of my calling, begging, and general panic (our adoption was already completed on the Guatemala side). I think at the time the autogenerated email (which was frequently updated) said they were working on files that had their homestudies in from August (which meant a 4-month/16 week time frame). I had always heard these estimates were behind, though, so the wait isn't QUITE as long, but who knows?

Yes, you definitely want to know some recent info from people using your office.
