A quick question:
On the Certificate of Citizenship, there is a line for a signature of the person who's citizenship the document reflects. For an adopted infant, it is obvious that they will not sign (although it would be kind of funny). Does anyone know how that document is supposed to be signed? I have searched the USCIS website and could not find anything. For a US Passport, on the Department of State website, they say the following: "In the space provided for the signature, the mother or father must print the child's name and sign their own name. Then, in parenthesis by the parent's name, write the word (mother) or (father) so we know who signed for the child." Is this the acceptable protocol for a Certificate of Citzenship? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. |

I would ask your agency. We just did this with ours and our SW wasn't sure which our country wanted, so they had me do two-- leave one blank and sign another as the amom... They are checking into it and will use appropriate form.

Ok we have 2 adoptions, 2001 and 2002
the one in 2001 is-- Childs name printed then the word (by)and then my signature. the adoption in 2002 is-- Childs name written (cursive) then the words (by mother) and then my signature. Each certificate was done at the same INS office in front of an INS official. The first one very emotional because I had to swear the oath of alligiance for my child. The INS lady did not know what was happening I started blubbering in the the middle of it and was having trouble getting it said. The 2002 adoption was no big deal because the kiddo was an automatic citizen when he came to the USA.
