What is an I-864?
Can anyone explain what this form is? Some people keep talking about it for our Liberia adoption, but I've never heard of it before. Does it have something to do with proving your income?
Thanks for any help you can provide. ~Rachel

The I-864 is the “affidavit of support” which you can read more about on the instruction page for the document, which can be found here: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsf...iles/I-864.pdf
That is a PDF - so Adobe is required to view.

The I-864 is NOT needed if both spouses in a married couple, or a person adopting as a single, will be traveling to pick up the child, and the child has had a final adoption overseas.

We just had an overseas final adoption (both spouses traveled, too), but we had to provide an I-864 with supporting docs while at the Embassy in Haiti. The form is a pain to fill-out, but don't take a chance. You'd hate that form (and a copy of your taxes and paystub) to be the only thing keeping you from boarding a plane for home with your child.
