wait time at Atlanta office?

Hi. My husband and I are adopting from Kazakhstan. I am filing our I-600A on Monday and our completed homestudy should follow within the next two weeks. I was just wondering if anyone out there could give me an idea on the wait time at this particular office. We are pretty anxious to get everything done. Thanks! Have a great weekend!

Julie

We are adopting from China, but we also went through the Atlanta office. I can give you our time frame, but our homestudy went in quite a bit later, so I don't know how closely this will work for you.

We mailed our I-600A on Feb. 14. Within a week or two, we had our fingerprinting appointment letters. Our appointment was on March 9. Our homestudy was mailed sometime during the last week of April, and it took around 3 weeks or so to get our I-171H.

When it gets close to the time that you feel you should be getting your I-171H, there is a fax number where you can contact the Atlanta office to check your status. They got back to us very quickly when we contacted them.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. That does help. My husband and I don't want to have to wait 3 months for our I-171H so I'm glad you didn't have to. Hope you have a great weekend!

Anyone else have any similar or different experiences?

There is a thread on the China board relating to the Atlanta office. Everyone seems to be having positive experiences thus far.

Talking Atlanta INS

Love them! lol
From the time we were fingerprinted to the time we received our 171, was less than 6 weeks. And even then, the only holdup was getting them our homestudy. There were great to work with and very helpful when I faxed them regarding the status.
Good luck to you!

We also had a good experience with Atlanta office.

We had a quick response regarding appt for fingerprinting (all in January), but there was a hold up because of the fingerprinting (state level) for our homestudy (nothing to do with USCIS). But once the homestudy was FINALLY sent to USCIS, we received our 171 in less than 10 days.

Good luck!

It took ours exactly 2 weeks!

And I'm super pleased!

We just got our 171-H in today, so 10 business days, if you will.

It took about 10 business days for us as well. The one really good thing about living in Atlanta. LOL

Pittsburgh USCIS wait time

My wife and I are adopting from China and having our home study, home visit tonight. Our SW said he would have our home study completed tomorrow. We will then overnight the home study to USCIS in Pittsburgh, they already have everything else. Does anyone have experience with wait times at this office.

Thanks
Don

Our home study has been sent to the Atlanta office! We're praying that we get our I-171H very quickly! Besides getting everything apostilled, our dossier is complete and BCIS approval is all we're waiting for before we can send out our dossier! YEA!

We had to transfer our file from another state and already had our 171H in hand at that point. So, our situation was a bit different. But, Officer Sandino (the orphan unit officer with the Atlanta office) recieved our updated homestudy last Tuesday, reapproved and re-issued our 171H that same day as well as cabling the Embassy with the information. We recieved the revised approval in the mail on Thursday.

Again, our situation was unique. The child in the foreign country was free and clear for travel and the immigration process was holding up our departure for a medically fragile child. But, I've been told that this officer is extremely effecient and helpful for all files going through the Atlanta office. Our local homestudy agency says her typical turn-around time is about 2 weeks (or 10 business days).

Question I have a question about the Atlanta office...

We are having to go through the Charleston, SC office (a satellite for the Atlanta office)

Can anyone tell me if their experience are similar to that of the Atlanta office or does Charleston process their own?

Thanks,
Suzanne
