Smile Chicago suburbs roll call!

I know you're out there fellow Chicago suburbanites! We adopted our son through a local agency five years ago and have been trying to adopt independently for two years now and have experienced some bumpy roads along the way. Would love to chat with anyone in Chicagoland going through the adoption process; domestic or international God bless you!!

fellow suburban-ite here! I'd love to set up a roaming playgroup - we could meet at different places in the suburbs. Anyone else interested in this?

We don't live in IL but 2 of our children are from the Chicago area. We are there often visiting their birth families. One is from South Holland & the other from Evanston.

I am from Chicago suburbs too

hi,
I have been lurking here for about a year and have not adopted a child yet. because my husband is worried about bonding issue if we adopt an old child,he back off after our 1st meeting with the agency. I am just waiting for him to realize that I am not much younger so we need to act soon. also, I am still trying to figure out how to talk to him about this again. my husband is a loving person and he loves kids so I think he will come to the sense that we could handle it.
I hope that I can get to know you guys here and I can learn from your experience.

South Suburban Mom

Hi everyone! My husband and I are just beginning the international adoption journey and I am so happy to find this group. Not only is it somewhere to gather info and support, but it's a local group! I am a mother of 2 bio girls, 3 years & 6 months. I am trying to decided between countries so I can select and agency. I'm leaning towards Philippines, Guatemala, & El Salvador. We would love to add another daughter to our family, my husband loves being out-numbered. If anyone has any suggestions or insight, I would love to hear it!

Hi Kirsty and Everyone,
Glad to know that there are many like miinded people in the Chicago suburbs. I, too, would like to gather with adoptive families to share trials as well as laughs. Luckily, its more of the latter.
We have 3 adopted children ages 6, 2 and a half and 10 months. International and domestic. Would love to hear from everyone.

Also from the western suburbs

Hi,

I was so glad to see some people post on this forum, and especially others from the western suburbs!

My husband and I are adding to our family of three (we have a biological son) through adoption. We're currently awaiting a court date to pick up our little girl from Russia. Lately, I've been feeling a bit isolated. I have 'lots of great friends, but none of them really understand how adoption can be quite different from having a biological child, and how that's especially true when one is adopting a child who has spent a couple of years in an institution. I would love to chat with others who understand. Am also very interested in playgroups or meeting others at various locations in the western 'burbs.

Cheryl

adoption playgroup in Northern Illinois

Hello,
I am a foster and adoptive and bio mom, with two young kids currently at home - 3 and almost 2, Would be very interested in meeting with others who have shared the adoption journey. Interested in roaming playgroup, or just networking with others.
Thanks, Jamie

I offering help with parents or playgroup

Dear Kirsty-
Looks like you have a few people interested in getting together. Do you need any help organizing this?
I'n thrilled that there are other people in our general area as both of the agencies that I've worked have not been active with getting parent groups together.
There's a CAFFA adoption conference coming up and a later one in the year through AFT -
but it's nicer to get to know people more intimately - plus it's really good for my kids!
Let me know if I can help-
Jamie

Chicago area get together?

Hi everyone. Would anyone be interested in getting together to talk about our adoption/foster experiences? I just noticed how many folks have posted to this thread. I'm in the western suburbs, maybe meet at a Caribou at one of the big tables by a fireplace?? Gotta keep warm!! Ideally it would be great to bring our kiddos along, but realistically that might be hard to organize off the bat. Bring pictures!!! PM me if interested and tell me which evenings/afternoons would work for you and let me know where you're located. I'll see what we can put together :-)
Blessings!!
Kirsten

Hi, we're trying again too!

Hi, we're in Oak Park, just outside of Chicago. We're just starting the process of adopting a second time and we'd love to meet other families that have adopted or are in the process! My daughter is 4, will be 5 in April. We're also going to adopt again domestically, probably through an agency in Texas.

Sonya
