Yes, the birth certificate is amended after adoption.

I am 36 in NY. There are many reasons I believe I was adopted (parents ages, they are much older than most parents, never saw pictures of my mom pregnant, etc) but I prefer not to list them here. If you want to exchange emails addresses, I would love to communicate that way. K

Re: ADOPTED?

I don't know your age or state, but this is my story. I recently was going through my Mom's things, as we had to admit her into an assisted living facility. I, too, had reason to believe that I was adopted. States are differsnt, but in the state I am from, the adoptive records are open if your adoption took place prior to 1963, which mine did. I filled out a form (I got it on my state's web site.), had it notorized and submitted two forms of identification I also had to send a copy of my marriage license to link the names). I received my records in 4 weeks and it would have been sooner had I known about the marriage license. It cost $20. They wouldn't tell me at the state if I was adopted or not until I sent the $20 & the form. They would return my money with a letter, if not. I figured it was worth $20 either way to just know. Good Luck.

I was born in 1964, but I don't know what my state law is about adoption. I'll have to chek into it.
I would really like to find out, not that it would matter, my mom and dad were the one who raised me and my sister and gave us a good life, but I have had some medical happenings that don't "mesh" with the rest of the family. It's agony not knowing the truth. And I am 99 percent sure I was adopted. If it's true, though, it's amazing that nothing ever leaked out in all these years.

One thing that alerted me most was when my mom referred to mine and my sister's births, she always said "when I GOT you girls", never "When I HAD you." As a young kid, I never thought anything of it. As I got older, that along with other things, tipped me off that this wasn't normal. I always say to my kids "When you were born", or "when I was pregnant with you", or "When I had you".
