Searching for Quebec Birth Parents

I was adopted by a Jewish family in Calgary Alberta Canada but was born apparently in Montreal Canada in April of 1961. Quebec files are sealed and I have hit every dead end possible. Adoption parents now passed and desire to find my roots.... Any ideas out there.... Perhaps my birthmother might even read this... Hoping!!!

finding parents in Quebec

I did see a site for adoptions in quebec but it was in french. Also did you register with Canadian Adoptees registry?
Lots of names there.
Was your mother from Quebec or another province?
If she was from ONtario or New Brunswick and went to Montreal to give birth, try looking in Canadian Adoptees in both provinces as well as by year.
Don't know if there is a registry here. (I'm new here).
Keep us posted.

looking in quebec

Okay , a couple more ideas for you. One is cousinconnect.
another tool I have used is the genealogy tool. looking up your birth name and seeing if any relatives exist ( female) around that time.
Yet another if you can, is going to the provincial museum, looking in the archives under your birth date and seeing the complete name of your birth mother. Never know , could be an unusual one.
Try asking for a search angel in Quebec, too. They may know some ways around that mess that Quebec has for not locating birth parents or has it in english to begin with
Good luck

sam3cts,

I was able to be reunited with my bson who was born in Montreal in 1964 by contacting the Batshaw Family Services, once known as the Ville Marie Family Services, a Red Feather Organization. I will send you a PM with the address and I wish you good luck in your search. Audrey

I know you're registered here. http://www.canadianadopteesregistry.org/

That registry was where I found my son... the listings are by DOB. My son did not know his name and wrote 'Male' with no last name, and I found him. I looked at that site every day for 7 years before his name showed up, so don't give up hope.

Heart Appeciative and still searching...

You people are great.... Yes I am registered in http://www.canadianadopteesregistry.org/ and yes all it says is Male Montreal and my birthday April 30, 1961. I don't know my birth name or my mothers name so I hope she is as diligent as the lady who checked every day for 7 years...what commitment! I contacted Vill Marie back in November of 91 and still no word. I was told all my life that I was born in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. On written request they replied with McGill University Health Centre Letter Head that they could not facilitate me because of the law. I responded with a phone call and the person on the other end replied after my pleasant persistence...lol ... that they had no record of my birth. I went to the office of Vital statistics in Montreal personally and got a "no...sorry." I was told by my adoption aunt that she had heard that my birth mother was Jewish and my father gentile and that she couldn't keep me "the baby". My adoptee mother admitted to me on her death bed that I was adopted and that it was arranged by my Grandfather Max through a lawyer and that my birth father was a wealthy Jew who owned a chain of department stores in Montreal and who had an affair but they needed to give me up for adoption to hide the issue. Shortly after while gently proding for more info and finding her story didn't jive my adoptee mother admitted she made the whole thing up and wouldn't say anything about it. As you may guess my head is spinning and I guess all I am sure of is my birthdate and that my birth certificate says place of birth, MONTREAL. I will try some of the other ideas mentioned... I sure appreciate you all. Thank you so much.... keep those ideas coming. Sam

shalom Sam,

Go to Quebec, then go to the museum, then go to the archives and look up your birthdate. Name of birthmother will be beside birth of "male". Contact all on that date.
Hugs

Sounds like you've been given some good tips. It's important to get that non-ID info, so hope that comes through pretty fast.

Wishing you the very best of luck, 'sam'! Let us know what transpires. If you get any news, we expect to hear all about it right away!

Sam, I am really touched to read about the circumstances of your birth. Although this makes no difference in your on-going search, I remember quite well the actual hospital where you were born for I went there, to the Women's Pavillion of The Royal Victora Hospital as a student nurse in Oct. 1961 for a 3 month affiliation in obstetrical nursing. I was in training at a smaller hospital in a smaller city 100 miles from Montreal. We were sent there for Obs. since the maternity ward in our own hospital wasn't large enough to provide us with the required experience. Of course, by then, you must have already been adopted.

It's an impressive old building; gray, gothic style looking somewhat like a castle with Mount Royal directly behind it....probably built in the late 1800's. So you can tell people that you were born in a castle! Audrey

Audrey, what a twist of fate it would have been if you had started your nursing residency a few months earlier. You would have been wracking your mind to remember every second of each shift, and who was in each bed.

Even so, just the fact that you can explain what the hospital looks like and it's location in Montreal is incredible... that you were there within 5 months of Sam's birth.

Serendipitous.... is that the word?

Heart What a coincidence....

Amazing that it was so close to my birthdate that you worked at that hospital...I concur... what a shame that it wasn't at the same time but then that was a long time ago and I'm sure you helped with many deliveries....who knows....maybe one of your collegues will remember and will have an iron clad memory when it comes to details....Some of you have mentioned going to the Quebec museum....Since I live in Florida now and that is some distance from me...is there any online way that any of you know to check the museum archives from here on my computer???? Appreciate you all soooo very much.....I feel like I've connected with a really tremendous community of individuals who can empathize (sp?) with the desire I have to find my beginnings....Lots of love. Sam

Seems that those records aren't online. You may have to find a search angel to go look if that's how you want to do it. I think asking for, and getting, your non-ID info might give you some hard facts and details that would help you as much.

Patience... that must now be your middle name. Keep in touch, so when you get something we can go from there. Read some of the other people's stories here - you may get some good info to take into reunion with you. Because that's when the 'real fun' starts.

Shalom Sam,

this is Saturday and I'm posting so you won't get this till tomorrow *(bad bad me) but, I think the suggestion of getting a search angel from Quebec ( preferably Montreal is the answer.
Can you e-mail some that are looking and ask them to look in the archives? they may not have thought of doing that themselves and wish to look for their dates of birth as well.
Take only a few minutes longer to look at theirs and yours.
keep us up to date and check here a lot. Never know when someone comes up with a brilliant plan ( like opening adoption records, what a dream!)

Went surfing the web a few minutes ago and found this site, Sam.

http://www.canadopt.ca/pqgov.htm

has an e-mail address. Looks like it can cost bucks, but, it's not that bad. cheaper, I'd say than a PI.
