Found out by accident at 35

What a shock I just found out I was adopted so my minds going wild...I had no clue...I really do resemble my adopted family I share the same coloring as my brother and always thought my mother and I shared similar facial features...

Its rather sad how I stumbled upon this info...My mother recently had a stroke and is in the hospital...We had just sold her house and were in the process of moving her because of deadlines I am cleaning and packing when I ran across and envelope addressed to my brother marked personal...being nosey I opened it...I called my cousin and found out the whole family knew about this but my mother never wanted me to find out...I have 2 brothers neither of whom were adopted she had very difficult pregnancies and a hard time concieving...She was 40 when I was born and I always thought that was strange considering the times...To complicate maters it appears that my mother has alzheimers desease or some form of dementia...I think the signs were their previously but she was good at hiding these things...I assumed depression and feel that the stroke has pushed things out..theirfore at least at this time I cannot discuss it with her...My father can't remember much but is going to confer with an aunt to see what she can recall..I know they had quite a bit of information..my cousin knew that at least one of my birth parents was a college student and I was of Iris decent...she believes the birth mother was still in high school...My oldest brother who would have been about 11 when this happend passed on last year he had told his partner my birth mothers last name...My other brother was 4 so he does not know any details at that age he did not understand...

I am actually excited about this information...I think it was meant for me to find out to help me deal with all that was going on...I really want to search but don't know where the start and I really really want more than just un identifying information and medical history...I want to know the story...I guess I fear if I get started I may never know..What I do know so far is I was born 8/26/1970 1:55 pm according to my birth certificate (Not the origional) at The New York Hospital In Manhattan..my adoption was handled through Nassau County Social Services...I was 3 months old when I was place and I know because of a report that I was in a foster home..this really perks my curiosity since I was not taken from the hospital although I must admit I have no idea if this was standard...according the foster home report their is a question that asks if anyone other than my foster mother had interacted with me and it says yes..Father, Grandparents and Children...I don't know if that would be foster or birth it did not specify..It almost sounds like I was either taken from my natural parents or decided after my birth that they could not keep me...The name I was given for the birthmother was Davenport..I don't know how true or accurate this is I will just leave it as my oldest brother was deeply troubled and sometimes spouted off nonsense..I guess if anyone knows anything or has advice I am open to sugestions.

Well, what a shock to find this out after so many years. I can only imagine you trying to wrap your brain around the whole thing. I am about your age but I have always known but when i recently told my best friend she was totally shocked so I can only imagine what your feeling.

I would go to family members like your aunt, mother, father and through bits and peices here and there you may be able to fit a few pieces of the puzzle together. From there find out exactly what agency dealt with it and then try to get all info from them that you can. They can at least help with non-iden. info. I would start that now because it can take weeks before you receive anything. At the same time I would also register with them in case anyone from your birth family is looking for you and you can hopefully find out soon one way or another.

I found out by a google search! Yup, I put in my birth name and there it was. I found a birth sister and through her I found 5 more. You just never know what happens especially when you least except it.

I wish you luck with your journey. It is going to be one of those that will have it's up and downs but it is an experience to say the least.
