I think that it is about time! We came home 1 year ago yesterday with our daughter Lilly from Haiti. We love talking about Haiti and our experience there.

Hi Heidi, We are just now gathering our dossier for our Haitian adoption. We are anxious about INS since we already have a I600A filed for China, so we are waiting for our agency to advise us as to how to proceed. Your adoption timeline seems quick. We are anticipating the whole thing taking about 2 years. It seems as if the number of children you have at home is an influential factor in the timeline. We have one daughter at home already, but I guess according to Haiti she doesn't "count" because she is adopted. While I find that attitude infuriating, it will work in our favor in this case.

Any advice or words of wisdom are appreciated.

Sorry the reply took so long. We have been busy moving and I havn't been checking back as often as I usually do. Lilly's timeline was quick due to her being so sick. A large portion of hers was expedited. We were through IBESR in 3 weeks and that only took that long because they switched the person who signed the papers at that time! 2 years is a very realistic goal I think.
I think that only having 1 adopted child in your home you are fine as far as Haiti is conserned. You would have to have 3 or more biological children to even consider worrying about it. I know it is infathamable to us. However it is a cultual issue there. They have a hard time understanding why whith so many children already you would want more children that in there eyes are not yours unless you intend to make them sslaves. This has been a huge problem in Haiti's past and still happens in their country today. It is a horrible fact in Haiti and they are trying to protect their children the best they can. Please Pm me the agency you are using. I love hearing about where people are adopting from and when they find their children. I spent last January in Haiti and I still dream about when I can take Lilly back to visit.
