Hi,
I know that there was suppose to be a meeting around 11 today in Guatemala regarding Hague. Has anyone heard any info from their agency? My agency told me that all they know is if anything comes out of this that effects adoption it will be fought and that as long as we have our referral already we should be fine. We are in the family court process right now. We are awaiting our little girl Jayden Maria who is 8 months old. We are hoping to have her home soon, but who knows with Hague. My agency has been very reassuring and tells me not to worry that things are still moving smoothly. Just wondered if anyone has heard anything else? Thanks Katherine

Hello,
The big list is VERY helpful. I find it to be very reliable and they do not allow "rumors" to be shared. I don't remember exactly how I signed up. But here is the web address. There are lots of different web sites so look for the Guatemala-Adopt one. You could also search this board. I know it is on here somewhere. Good Luck! http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu |

Hi
According to a different list, there was no agreement between lawyers and PGN so they are waiting for the Supreme court to rule next week supposedly. Try Fertilethoughts website for info also. Denise |

We haven't heard anything about the Hague today but we did receive 3 emails from our agency saying that they think the families who have referrals should be ok,just that the process will probably take a lot longer to actually get the child.
To families that haven't gotten a referral yet ,it is a personal decision to keep going with Guatemala, whether or not we want to take a chance on getting a child and that it might be a little older than we had hoped. The baby would probably be at least a year old by the time we would get it. They also suggested looking into other countries. I was not real encouraged by this news. They are still taking referrals and going ahead with their program ,we just need to decide what we want to do. We are close to getting a referral and are not sure what to do now. Pam and John |

I'm so confused and frustrated! I don't know who to believe. Here is an email I got from my agency today, when I asked what was going on w/ Guat:
"The PGN held a meeting with the attorneys and they informed the attorneys of some new procedures for when they register a referral at the beginning of an adoption process. Also the PGN has establishing a separate adoption unit within the PGN. So adoptions are moving along. You are on our list for a girl referral and I am getting new information every day. So we will be talking soon." Then I asked if we can assume that timing will be the same- which for our agency is 5-7 months from referral- and here is the response: "yes, running as usual is the word right now. The process time should be about the same, with the changes in the PGN they have not given any indication of time frames, so we can only hope they would not take longer." So I really don't know who- if anyone- knows what's going on and it's killing me. It would be helpful if other people posted what their agency has told them, so we could gather some type of concensus. Have a blessed day. Tammy |

Tammy,
I think your basic information is correct...there are only a couple of things I would still question: 1. No one knows for sure how the new procedures, and separate adoption unit will affect timeframes. I am sure your agency is being optimistic in hopes that timeframes will not change much...at this point that is extremely difficult to know. 2. Everyone, attorneys, agencies, and PGN, are all waiting on the outcome of the court challenge on the constitutionality of the signing of the Hague. If the attorneys are successful in that suit...then it may be difficult, if not impossible, to ever implement the Hague in Guatemala...and all of this worrying will have been for nothing. There is hope that there will be a decision on the lawsuit early next week...until then...I hope everyone continues on the path to their child!!! Good Luck, Becky |

We got word from our agency that adoptions will continue for the time being and that there will more than likely be some procedural changes. PGN has discussed requiring birth mother interviews and other changes that could lengthen the adoption process.
I pray that will be bringing our babies home soon! And that we all have the strength to make it through this process ! Good luck to everyone! ![]() |

agency info
I too talked with my agency today. They reassured me that my adoption process was moving smoothly and that the time frame would be the same. She did say that she felt like there would be changes in the program for future adoptions but since we had already accepted our referral and were in the court systems that we would be fine.
Lets just hope and pray that she is right.

Our agency had told us "expect some delays." We have our referral and we have yet to enter FC.
My agency also tells me they are receiving referrals daily and they continue to accept applications. They expect adoptions to continue and they are preparing all new applicants for a slow adoption. I appreciate their honesty. They are like everyone else...not 100% sure of anything at this point, but they don't want anyone to be unprepared. As for people who already have their referrals...our agency says things will continue as usual...their are too many attorneys fighting this and we will get our children! We will know more next week, I hope!!!! Michelle |
