I am looking for any new (since Dec. 02) info re: single parent adoptions. I completed a single parent adoption in Guatemala in 2001, and am ready to begin the paperchase for a second baby, but had heard many of the rumors around December that single parent adoptions were having some problems in family court. Has anyone gone through this phase of the court process this year? If so, did you have any delays or problems re: being single?
Thanks in advance... Debbie Mom of One, hoping for more! |

I am not familiar with anything regarding singles adopting, but I did find this last night when I was doing research on the Hague Convention. You may be aware of this since it was implimented in Dec. of 2002.
Good Luck |

I have not (yet) gone through family court myself, but I did ask my agency about it last month when I received my referral. They told me that they had had several single moms get through the process smoothly, and "some" are being asked for a letter stating that they live alone (if that's true) and are heterosexual.
Good luck with your second adoption!! Lauren, waiting for Luis Miguel (2 months) |

Hi,
I am single and was very worried about this also, espically when the agency that I started out with put a hold on their singles adoptions because of the problems they were having in Family Court. I have had no real problems yet though. I entered Family Court on February 5 and my Interviews are being done on Thursday. It took a little longer then I would have liked to get the interviews scheduled but I am just so happy to be making progress that I can't complain. I am hoping to maybe be out by the end of the month and on to PGN. Good luck on your process, Lori ![]() |

I was in Family Court as a single parent from Sept 19 until December 10 and did not have any problems. I think it depends on what social worker you get in Guatemala.

I am a single mom and my case was comleted December of 2002. I had no problems in family court or PGN. It also helps if your home study is phrased in such a way to indicated that you are living alone or with another relative. I am not sure what is happening now.
