stuck in PGN hell!!! Anyone else?
I have been in hiding lately and just lurking as I am getting so bummed about the wait. We entered PGN early Nov, were kicked out at Thanksgiving and re-entered on Dec. 16 or so. I know xmas slowed things down but now we have spent the whole month of Jan in the darn court with no news. They tell us that no news is good news but I just keep wondering could there be something going on down there that they aren't telling us about. Everytime I call I get the same response, "we expect you to be out any day now." Well, anyday now has turned into 3 weeks. Is anyone else in the same boat. I know I am supposed to be patient but I see people getting out of PGN every day and I just don't understand what could be taking so long. Of course, in the mean time we are packing, getting the nursery ready, doing a book for our little angel, and all the other stuff they say to do. I would appreciate any input into this situation.
best to all, dalhal |

We have been in PNG since early November also-- We were advised that we were kicked out last week and the attorney is resubmitting the paper work on Monday. They said we should here back in 5 to 10 working days--I hope it will not be 10 weeks to hear as with the first submission. Kee p us advised as maybe we will go down at the same time??? I too am waiting - I have been in PGN since Nov and kicked out twice. Currently, the PGN officials don't like the signature on the birth-mom's birth certificate because the official signing it was an interim person, not the real official. Supposedly, they have a new appointee next week & maybe a new birth certificate will make PGN happy. I can't go right now anyway because my INS papers expire and I'm waiting for my renewed forms to come. 2 1/2 years seems like forever (Changed country last year), but maybe it will happen some day. Hang in there.

PGN wait
Susan and MaryAnne,
Thanks for sharing your stories. Everyone has their own story and their own trials and tribulations. I have periods where I am resigned to the process and other periods where I feel like I just want to have control over it. You guys reminded me that normally you do hear in 5-10 working days whether you are in or out. Since it has been since Dec. 16 this is why I am thinking something must have happened down there that they did not tell us about, like we got kicked out but they didn't feel they needed to tell us. I would much rather know about it than sit and wonder what is going on. Best of luck to you all. We are entering a new week and I know if you guys are like me I usually enter the week hopeful and then end it with disappointment. I so hope one of us hears soon about getting out. dalhal |

Dear Dalhal,
How old is your child? How long has your process taken to this point? I know it's hard to wait it out...but you really are nearing the end of the process...hang in there...soon your child will be in your arms forever! Good Luck, Becky |

in PGN hell
Hello Becky,
Our little one is 7 months old this week. We got our referral in mid July. So, I guess that puts it at the longer end of the wait period. We are trying not to fret too much about it as we really have no control over it, but we miss our little one so much. thanks for the encouragement dalhal |

We were kicked out because on two documents the copy was too light so that the proper signiture was not apparent and the attorney had not submitted a translated copy of the DNA testing. Regards, Susan FEntress

reasons for being kicked out
There are many reasons a case can be kicked out. Often times it has to do with the paperwork that your attorney in Guatemala has submitted. Sometimes, it is your paperwork. A few key things to remember when you are compiling your dossier:
1. Be sure all notaries are current and that their expiration date is at least 6 months away. 2. Be sure that NO white-out is used on any of your documents. 3. Be sure that your name affadavit has every possible combination of names that could be used on any paperwork. 4. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: READ AND RE-READ ALL OF YOUR PAPERWORK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE SUBMITTING. CORRECT ANY MISSPELLINGS OR MISTAKES. Sometimes, things happen and you will have to re-do documents, sometimes you will sail right through. Eventually everyone makes it through (at least I've never heard of someone who didn't!) Good Luck to everyone! Becky ![]() |

We've been in PGN since November too! We've been kicked out twice--once for the power of atty. form not all being typed (the baby's name was added after it was completed and they don't like that now)--the second time because my name was mispelled--I believe by the atty. since I cannot find it anywhere in my documents--so I had to do another name explanation affidavit!! We are also waiting to hear "any day" that we are out--I'm trying not to be too anxious--HA HA!! I think this is the most difficult part--to wait for someone else to nit pick at your paperwork--don't they want to get these children to their homes???

MARY ANNE *****CONGRATS!!!! FOR GETTING OUT OF PGN THATS THE NEWS WE MOST AWAIT...
GOOD LUCK WITH THE TRIP, KEEPS US POSTED. I am just entering family court and I am doing a private adoption. any information could share would be great... Since I comunicate directly with the attorney I don't know if that is easier or not . It just is what it is . I have learned not to worry so much since most of the things going on are out of my control. I take one turbulence at a time.. good luck to all of us in the most wonderful journey or our lives. carmen

pgn
MaryAnne,
so glad you are finally out. Do you mind sharing your story with us. It does make us all feel better to know that there are actually people getting out. I have heard from my agency that they are being more strict about PGN lately. Carmen, You sound like you have a good attitude. It is the attitude that we all have to take if we don't want to be taken away in a whit coat. Best of luck to you. AAGuatemala, I have not herad of the HIV thing being required per se but I would imagine they do need it, and I think you would want it to. I know that we did have a record of the HIV test being done but don't know if it was submitted to the court. Hang in there too. We are all in this together and like so many have said, it will be so worth the wait. dalhal |

Hi,
Yesterday I found out that I was not only out of PGN, but I also had my renewed INS forms on the way. It has been a long haul. It started July of 2000 - a social worker who had too many personal problems to get out here for a home study, then took about 4 months to write it and then left the agency without sending the home study to immigration. It was June of 2001 by the time I straightened everything out. The next thing was that I was shooting for a Mexico child (my daughter #1 is from Mexico and my new agency was working on Mexico from the same orphanage). It was a new program and had problems in that no placements were being made - I ended up as the only person left in the program by this time. Mexico came up with a rule that my papers had to sit there for 6 months before they'd look at them. When the 6 months were over, their placement group rarely met & when they did, they offered much older kids. So, I decided I'd better bail out and switched to Guatemala. I had a referral for 2 months (abandonment and had not yet been legally cleared). The girl had been taken from the orphanage to foster care and all of a sudden the officials came to the foster home and took her back saying that she was someone else's referral. I still think this was all rather strange. Anyway, a week later (June 2002) I received my current referral. I was never privileged to receive the dates I went in and out of family court, etc. I think I was out of family court the beginning of Nov. I went into PGN around the end of November, was kicked out for some reason I don't know and then back in. The second time, I was kicked out I understand that the official didn't like the signature of the temp person who signed the birthmom's birth certificate. This week I was told I'd have to wait until there was a permanent employee. It seems though, that it cleared because they all came back after Christmas, & I bet someone new was looking at it. Soooo..... Don't give up. I felt much better when I just decided to kind of forget worrying about it and just go on with life... then the good news felt like a nice surprise! Mary Anne |
