passport

Hi Everyone! I have been faithfully following the posts on this board, and have found it very helpful. You all are a wealth of knowledge and support. We are in PGN and are extremely hopeful that the new passport law really has caused the passport process to be quicker. Does anybody have any information about this? Are passports really coming out in less than a week? Thanks in advance! Ajilla and Eric, awaiting Kyle born 4/5/02

I have read of several families on the Big List who have received passports in a week. I think it's really true! Good Luck and I hope your little one is home soon.

Thanks Becky! It would be so wonderful to have Kyle home for the holidays (Thanksgiving OR Christmas). If we can bring him home at Thanksgiving time, he would also be just in time for our 6th wedding anniversary. The new passport law is a blessing! Let's all keep our fingers crossed that it remains a quick process for all of us bringing our little ones home! Ajilla and Eric

Question Passport Law

Hello All!

I have been out of the loop so to speak as we brought our son home from Guatemala 5/24/02. It has been a crazy year of growing and adjusting...on all out part's!

What's this I am hearing of a "new" passport law? Any info would be appreciated...my husband and I have discussed putting paperwork in come Spring for baby #2.

Good Luck to All of You!

Tracy

Tracy,

A group of attorneys who work with Rudy Rivera and Children of the World filed suit, basically saying that it was unconstitutional not to allow the children going through adoption to get their passports on an almost immediate basis. Any citizen of Guatemala can basically go in and get a passport done the same day, but the passports for the babies were taking weeks and weeks. It was agreed that this was not constitutional and things have just recently changed. Most attorneys are now able to get passports in a couple of days time, instead of the 5-6 weeks it had been taking in September.

Hopefully this means all babies will be home with their forever families much sooner!

Becky

I have mentioned before that I love to follow the "Guatemala folks" because you guys are so supportive of one another. What great news that someone took the passport bull by the horns - so to speak - and got something done about it. I always felt so bad for you guys because Russia does turn theirs around in a day and I couldn't understand why you and your babies were made to wait so long - couldn't understand other than just knowing it was Guatemalan bureaucracy. Congrats to you all!
