Carlos Zambrano adopting from Guatemala

Someone please enlighten me...how is this possible? The only explanation I can think of is that Zambrano's wife is Guatemalan and that this is considered a domestic adoption; but I'm just speculating.

Carlos Zambrano is in the final stages of adopting a boy from a Guatemala. | MLB.com: News

That does seem really odd. My first thought was it was a grandfathered case, but the child is too young.
I am not sure how that would work even if his wife was Guatemalan as the child would still need a visa I would think? I am not sure.
I am curious too though.

OK Maybe this is sour grapes BUT my agency was the one used by Angelina Jolie during one of her adoptions. Despite the fact that the agency insisted that she did not receive any special treatment they were later sanctioned because in fact they had. I think that in some cases - not all- but because of celebrity status or financial status (think Casey Johnson too) certain things are overlooked or sped through the system faster than for us mere ordinary citizens. I am sure that there are some people who may fall into these categories that had to wait their "fair" share of time in adopting but as i found out the harder way some times others get pushed to the front.

The thing is, with Guatemala closed for a couple years now (except for grandfathered cases) I don't know how they would pull it off even with special treatment. The thing for me is how they would get a visa for the child to enter the US?

This thread attracted me because I am a HUGE Cub fan and Big Z is my favorite Cub. Just want to add that Carlos Zambrano is not a US citizen. He is Venezuelan. So there might be different rules for citizens of other Central and South American countries. They are closed to the US but maybe not to Venezuela? As far as getting a US visa, Carlos's family gets visas because he has a green card to work in the US. If he officially adopts this boy, then his son will get a visa just as his daughters have. But in any case, US adoption laws will not apply to his case.

Would have been nice if they would have reported that his was not an adoption though US . I have seen a couple of posts on FB about this with people up in arms.
