Question Mammogram, freaking out, help

TOday of all days I got a call that the radiologist needs more pictures before he can make his determinaton on my annual mammogram. I say today because its my son's 7th bday and we all took off from school and work to take him to Disneyland for his bday!
Of course after the call I was a mess and we did not go. All day long I have been crying and hiding in my room. Can anyone assure me that everything may be alright? That maybe the dr is just being every careful?? Please? I know alot of you have experience with this sort of stuff, and have always been there for me in the past.
As usual, thanks in advance!

Hang in there. I had to go in for extra testing on Christmas Eve last year. All was well for me. I pray the same for you.

Try not to freak out. Take a look at this thread OT: Questionable Mammogram and the one I linked to inside of that thread. You would be amazed at how common followups are for something they want to take a second look at that turns out to be nothing.

And there are more threads like this on the GAPS forum. I just happened to remember these right off.

Please, take a deep breath and try not to panic. I would bet everything will be fine.

(((hugs)))

I'm just like you, I freak out and go and hide. I hope it will turn out ok, it is all so scarey, wish we all didn't have to go through these scarey times but prayers help, and I WILL pray for you!

Sometimes they need to be redone. Especially if they weren't checked to make sure they were of good quality. Sometimes they catch it before you leave the office, sometimes not. My doctor always says not to panic if they have to redo. Try not to worry. I will pray for you.

When I got my first one last month, the technician told me that it's very common for them to call you for more pictures, so not to worry if I got a call. She said she tells everyone that, because it's almost always nothing more than needing more images to compare to your baseline data. Hope that's the case for you, too.

That was me a year ago. I got a call to do a re-do and get more test and I FREAKED. All was well!!! This does seem to happen alot, my sister and my neighbor had to do the same thing at there last one, they too were both OK. I had to do follow ups every six months on that breast for one year and now I am back to normal yearly visits. Just breathe and try not to worry.

It's very common. I've had to have extra pictures taken every year for the past five years. Everything has always turned out normal. I wouldn't freak out about it. Whoever called you should have reassured you about how common this is. Relax and try not to worry.

It happens most of the time when I go to get one every year. Apparently I have "dense breasts" and it makes it harder for them to read, so they redo them frequently to make sure. Hang in there...

I too, get called back almost every year. Many times the dr doesn't read the mamograms at the time it's done. If the tech didn't line you up correctly or there is an area of interest that will warrant a call back so that it can be redone. Also if you are cystic or have density; it's harder to read; so that can warrant a call back. Good luck tomorrow; let us know how you make out. Hugs,

I'm so sorry that this is scary. I went through this a couple of months ago too, only they told me as soon as they took the first images that they'd need to take a lot more. As so many other people have posted, it's very common. The nurse who did mine told me that LOTS of women who get called back for one reason or another and that the vast majority of them are just fine. They may have dense breasts, they may have cysts, it may just be a bad picture, etc.

Ultimately, mine led to an ultrasound and biopsy. I'm telling you this not to scare you at all, but to tell you that even if they need to do more testing it doesn't usually mean anything bad. I was scared half to death and it ended up being a fibroid. They've told me that I should always plan on needing a lot of additional images every year. Fun stuff.

It's so hard to do, but try as much as you can not to scare yourself. The vast majority of the time it ends up being nothing.

Take care,
Anne

Happened to me about this time last year - ended up going in for an MRI because they could not get a clear read on the squish machine....and it turns out that I too have dense but normal breasts. I know its very stressful - but it is common. I will send my prayers that all turns out well for you too.
