A dentist question... I hope you're here tonight...

I'm worried about my daughter...

At 22 months she got 4 caps put on her top 4 teeth.

At 30 months she fell into a table (blood everywhere!) and we rushed her to the dentist and they said keep an eye on things.

Now she's 3 yrs 8 months...
About 2 months ago she started getting a little white bump on her gums. I didn't think anything of it, because she's had them off and on. They'd get big then pop.

Today we went in for our regular dental visit and the dentist said my daughter needs her front two teeth pulled. The bump is a cyst that is draining abscess from her gums. The x-ray shows where the root is now missing. The dentist said I need to take care of this asap. She also said no antibiotics are needed.

My concerns:

When I went to schedule the appointment, they said the soonest is 16 days out. That seems far, since the infection can spread to other teeth. But they even checked with the dentist and she said 16 days was fine, unless my daughter starts to hurt (but my daughter doesn't tell me things like that).

Also, if there's an infection, shouldn't it be treated with antibiotics???

Any advice is appreciated. I'm going to call the dentist in the morning (not sure when she'll call me back though), but I'm very concerned tonight.

I hope one of the dentists comes on tonight and can give you some advice. It doesn't seem right to me (the no antibiotics) after my recent experience with an abcess, infection and root canal. i was on two different antibiotics for the infection, but what do I know?!

You might cross post this on the General Adoptive Parents Forum. I believe there are some dentists who frequent that forum as well.

Good luck!

Daphne,

My daughter had her 2 front teeth pulled about 3 weeks ago because of an abscess in 1 tooth. No antibotics were needed and we scheduled 10 days out. She is doing great. They just used gas and numbed the area. Hope this helps.

Brenda

That helps very much! Thanks for your response and I'm glad your daughter is doing well.
