OT -- Flu mist vs. shot

I'd like to get our daughter the H1N1 vaccination, but options here are few. Typically, I prefer for her to get vaccinations without the mercury (meaning the single dose syringes), but the county doesn't have those yet. They do have the ones with preservatives and they have the mist. The idea of the live virus makes me a little nervous too. (Our daughter is almost 4, for what it's worth.)

Just wanted to hear from some of you who have had it so far. Did your kids have the shot or the mist? Any reactions either way?

Thanks!

Anne

My 3 1/2 yr old son had the mist last week. He was so relieved he didn't get a shot. He said it "tickled his nose". No reaction or issues of any sort.

My daughter (5) had the shot, and my boys (6 and 11) had the mist on Saturday. No reaction from any of them that I have seen.

Both kids had the mist last night. No reaction and ds is so terribly frightened by needles that I was relieved.
Good luck-

Both of my kids had their seasonal flu shots in mist form for the first time this year a couple of weeks ago no reactions for either one of them. My son positively hates shots it usually takes at least 4 people (including me) to hold him down for a shot but he didn't mind the mist at all and my daughter for the first time this year told me she didn't want any kind of flu vaccine but did fine with the mist.

DS had the shot - we would have gone with the mist except that he has had some breathing issues, not diagnosed with asthma but the ped recommended he get the shot. He also got the H1N1 shot but will need to go back after Nov. 17 (a month after first shots) for booster shots. He has never had a reaction from shots. Of course now many clinics are cancelling their flu clinics so if you can find the stuff I'd get it done asap. Good luck

DS got the mist yesterday. That was the only option available at our Ped's office.
