OT - Juicers?

Does anyone have a juicing machine, or recommend one? I want to get one but there are so many choices and price ranges. Target had the "Jack LaLane" one for $89. Thoughts??

i have the jack la lane one....got it at target. i love it. dh hates it. we differ on opinion due to how hard they are to clean. lol. it does take a while....it is a big mess to clean for a glass of juice. but nothing beats a fresh glass of juice!

I got one at Walmart for around $49. I don't remember the brand, though. I used it for about a week and then stopped using it because it was so hard to clean. Just wasn't worth it for juice. I kept meaning to take it back for a refund, but never got around to it.

Is it hard to clean even if you have a garbage disposal? We had one YEARS go....but we didn't have a garbage disposal, so ridding of the pulp was a major pain.

Can't you just rinse the "stuff" down the garbage disposal? Are yours dishwasher friendly?

Thx!

i would NOT put it down the disposal...it is pretty thick. i used to just scrape it into the trash, but now i compost it. but that is not why it is hard to clean. once you get rid of the pulp, in whichever manner you choose, the machine is a mess. you have to take it apart and clean one piece at a time and dry it very thoroughly. mine can not go in the dishwasher...it must be done by hand, right away. the other problem is occassionally i don't get it on right or it gets full, and it spits pulp and juice...on my counter, ceiling, cabinets, wall, etc. lol. again, a mess. for me, it is still worth it.

apple
carrot
beet
spinach
cherry

my favorite

We had a juicer it was a top of the line one. I tossed it and got a vitamix and make the thick fruit vegetable smoothies. I just thought juicers were a pain to clean. The only "juicer" we use is for oranges.

if you have the money to spend i highly recommend the vitamix. you can often get them used on craig's list or ebay. the bene of this juicer is that it uses the pulp so it has more nutrition. juicing is delicious but all sugar. of course homemade juice is better than store bought, and people are more likely to mix in veggies, but still...

if you can use the whole fruit of veggie it is much more nutritious. also with the vitamix you can make soup, vegetable juice with the fiber in it too, etc.

anyone out there use a vitamix?

We have a breville juicer ($85 at best buys) and we love it. I was making smoothies for dd in the blender and that worked great for her. My stomach is very sensitive and so I need to work into being healthier gently. Juice has all the vitamins of the smoothie without the fiber (which my body can't handle yet) so we decided to add a juicer to our routine. I make juice for the whole family then I blend a banana in with dd so the sugar is released slowly for her. I agree with pp if you can handle the smoothies the vitamix is the way to go. If you need to work into it slowly, I recommend the breville juice fountain compact (bje200xl).

I second the Breville. It's great. You can juice apples whole in this thing! We don't have a dishwasher and all I really have to do is rinse all the parts and scrub out the filter. I make green lemonade in the morning and apple carrot juice in the afternoon. DS drinks them both. Tastes sooo much better than what you buy in the container and so much better for you.

Update! I got the juicer - after reading many reviews on Amazon.com, I got the Breville 900 watt Juice Plus. It is awesome! We made apple juice, and later, carrot/orange/mango. The kids loved it. It is easy to clean, easy to put together and juices REALLY fast. In addition to the juice recipes, there are even recipes for the leftover pulp in the recipe book. Thanks everyone!
