Yesterday my family went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis (our favorite place). We ran into a family with 2 adult children who were adopted from Guatemala as shildren. The son was 24 and the daughter 21. We stopped and talked briefly about our girls. The mom had told her daughter that our youngest looked alot like she did when she was little. The son and daughter asked if we had kept the girls' birthnames and said their parents had. The son had gone to Guatemala a few years ago on a mission trip and the daughter wants to go soon.
The encounter was brief and after we parted I wished I had talked to them more, maybe asking them more about what helped them most in regards to coping with adoption, etc. It is just hard to do in that kind of meeting. I just keeping thinking about them. They were so nice, so beautiful and a snapshot of what my famly will look like in 16 years - I just hope my girls are as polite and kind.
