Public Ministry report to PGN?? Don't get it...

Does anybody have experience with PGN asking for a report from the Public Ministry? I'm still in process, and someone from PGN told me that now ALL cases have to get a report from the Public Ministry before they can sign off at PGN. Anybody have more specific information about WHY this is going on and how long it might take? Are there other folks still in process here who are dealing with this or who have recently dealt with it? What is the Public Ministry, anyway?

Yes, unfortunately this is the case for many of us left in process. The new section of PGN headed by Lica. Guevara will request a "trata de persona" from the Ministerio Publico. The MP will then look at their files and see if there are any reports regarding the child being adopted. After their internal file review, the MP will then send a report back to Guevara in PGN and she will then send your file back up to regular PGN for approval.

We have no idea how long this process is going to take although we always hope it would be quicker. There is a discussion thread on Guatadopt regarding this in the PGN forum.

Thanks for the info. Looking at your sig, I notice that we've both been in process about the same length of time. Wow... could they possibly make this process any more complicated??? First they said we were "grandfathered" under the old laws, then they added all these new hoops! Any idea what the purpose of the "trata de persona" is? I'm assuming it's another layer of protection for birth mothers? And how do they decide which cases need to go to that particular section of PGN? Is this truly something that ALL cases have to go through now, or just a "lucky" few like ours?

From what I've heard, this step with the MP is for all cases still in PGN. It is another layer of protection for both the child and birth mother. The PGN wants to make sure that there isn't corruption in any of the cases that they approve. So, they want this MP report to indicate that there are no outstanding reports related to the chlild in process.

It is frustrating and it feels as though we are asked to jump through more hoops in order to bring our children home. I hope that this is the last hoop we need to jump through as "grandfathered" cases.
