Question Need to Find My Certificate of Adoption - But Where??

I need help - I was recently asked to fax a copy of Josh's Certificate of Adoption, but when I look through his paperwork, I don't see anything named "Certificate of Adoption" - would it be in Spanish???? Does anyone know where I can get this form - or if I can use something else from all the paperwork to prove he's adopted????

Any help would be appreciated!

Sara,
What do you need the document for? It might help in directing you to what your looking for. Your timeline looks like you have been home awhile. Depending on your state process, they may have it. Our state keeps this when they issue a new US Birth Certificate.

The Protocolo is probably what you need, but the PGN decree is another possibility you might be able to use. Even though the birthmother had to sign the Protocolo following the case exiting PGN for the adoption to be final, the PGN decree wording sounds more like an adoption decree to those not familiar with the process. Like Kelly said, it would help to know what you need it for though.

Why I need it

Josh has to get tested today. His preschool teacher is concerned - she thinks he's a bit behind the other children in his class as far as language goes. This doesn't surprise me since he came home at 17 months old so we're going to have him tested to see if he should get some therapy before moving ahead to kindergarten (etc.)

Anyway, after all that...DART needs it to prove that he's adopted. But I'm sure they'll have enough proof as soon as we walk in and they see how different we look .

Thanks for all your help - I did find something that says Protocolo at the top of the page...I'll take (and some of the other paperwork with me) just to be safe.

LOL! One time it is good to look different than your child.

Do you have a translation of the Protocolo? Just to make sure you have the right one. I have at least two in my paperwork. One involves the initial power of attorney and the other is the one my child's birthmother signed completing the adoption. For something like this the PGN decree should work fine too.

Good luck today!

Hey Sara,

Which preschool is Josh in. My youngest is getting Dart at preschool and we didn't need any papers to show that she was adopted?????????

My sister's son came home at 9 months and just turned 3 and only has 15 or so words. He has been getting speech since January.

Email me if you want. I used to work for my girlfriend who has a speech practice and I know many speech therapist that might be able to help. Sometimes Dart is not enough.

Donna

We're all good

Josh just passed his DART testing with flying colors. They said some schools are strict. I think his preschool is a teeny bit strict, but not in a bad way...they like Josh alot and I think they were being safe and I'm glad they are watching out for him.

Hi Donna! Josh is going to Riverview Children Center. I'm not too concerned with his speech. He talks up a storm. He can't pronounce his L's or W's, but I think that's kind of normal for a toddler. Gina S. is a speech therapist (or something like that). I'm sure she'd be more than happy to help him out.

Thanks everyone for helping out...turns out I don't need the paperwork since he passed. They said if he would need further testing that they would need something then - not sure why...

Yes, you shouldn't EVER need to show this paperwork. Some folks (like us) don't even have this document because the state holds it, sealed.
