OT Anyone's kids see Dinosaur Train?

It's a new animated tv series on PBS kids. My son and I just caught it this weekend (I believe it just started). It features a little dinosaur who has been adopted by another dinosaur family. Mommy dinosaur had found an abandoned egg and adopted it. The little dinosaur who comes out of the egg is a very different species than the family he is born into. The little dinosaur wonders what type of dinosaur he is and what he will look like as he grows. Mommy dinosaur took him to visit another species of dinosaur to see if maybe he looks like them. Daddy dinosaur enourages him to learn to fish like his brothers and he finds his own way to do it (since he can't fly like them). He has different skills than his family. It seemed like a cute show from what I saw and seems relevent to some of what our kids face. Not many kids's shows feature adopted children.

Plus I also like children's shows which include moms and/or dads and don't just have the kids roaming around unsupervised (I'm talking about you Little Einsteins, Darby and Dora).

Yes and we loved it!!!!
We saw the commericals for it on PBS and my son was really excited to see it -so was I!
I knew that the T-rex, Buddy, was adopted, but I was surprised at how well they did with the adoption part and that they mention it throughout different episodes not just in the opening episode.

My SIL saw an episode where the T-rex who was adopted meets other T-rex dinosaurs. And she said that the other T-rexs said something like "You should live with us because you are a T-rex" and Buddy replied with something like "I love my family and I belong with my family, but I am excited to learn more about my speicies" Sounds like a great show for our kids and also a great show to help other children who were not adopted to understand adoptive families!
We are looking forward to seeing more.

Oh, I missed it! My son has been looking forward to it (he plays the games on pbskids.com), so we'll have to try to catch it tomorrow!

Thumbs up

This is a great show!! Dinosaurs, trains and adoption -- can't beat it. My 4 year old son LOVES this show. I particularly loved today's episode when he found out he was a T-Rex. When the other baby T-Rex told him it must be weird growing up in a family that looks different than him he said "it's OK we don't all look like because we're a family and that's what is important" (or something to that affect). It is a great show. I encourage anyone who missed it to order it from PBS.

We'll check it out! Thank you!!! (And I totally agree with you about kids roaming around unsupervised - the worst one for me was always Barney. The kids are in the playground unsupervised, but for the creepy maintenance man who was always lurking around. Sketchy!!!! ;-)

Abe watches it too, mostly for the choo choo, but he'll appreciate different aspects of it as he grows older. As mentioned, I especially like how adoption is part of the story, and the little t-rex's journey, and not just some background plot that never really gets mentioned much.
