Funny things our kids do and say.....

i love threads like this...and it has been a while since we have told funny stories. i'm sure you have some.

i'll start.

eli has a leapster...you have to "sign in" before playing. it says "eli" and he can just pick it, or you can type in a new name as a first time user. he brings me his computer and says, "look, i signed in." with this mischevious grin. i look down and it says

"HAN SOLO."

lol. what a ham!

I know my younger daughter (2.5) responds to my discipline because she will make observations about it much later, e.g., when we are driving and peacefully enjoying the scenery. A quiet, thoughtful voice will reach my ears:

"When I did __, you punished me, but Sister did the same thing [earlier] and didn't get the same punishment." [Yeah, it wasn't Sis's 10th offense within the hour!]

"I was reading 'Jesus Loves Me' and you punished me." [Apparently you forget the fact that you were studiously IGNORING and DISOBEYING ME right around that time!] (P.s., I love the way this one is going to sound when my kid writes her "mommy dearest" autobiography.)

Is this chick going to be a lawyer or a politician? I expected a few years of innocent childhood before I'd have to deal with this stuff.

My son is deaf. One day while I was getting onto him (I speak and sign at the same time), he put his little hand up by his mouth and tapped his thumb and forefinger together over and over again. All as if to say "yeah, yada, yada, yada". Such an attitude at 2.

so DD just turned 4. she told me this week she saw a dog driving a car. i said, "that's silly, dogs don't drive cars". to which she replied, "yeah, their legs can't reach the peddles" HA

actually that's the reason she thinks she can't drive the car.

DS is 26 months old & we've just started potty training. We're on day 6 of the 3-day method (don't get me started on how well this ISN'T going). So the book suggests getting the child up an hour earlier during training so s/he can pee in the potty, rather than elsewhere. Being a dedicated SAHM, I went to get DS up an hour earlier and my angle says "No, no, mama, night, night," as he's trying to wave my hands away!

He's also trying to wear his underware on his head, but he'll never do it when the camera's around -- why is that?? They are disney charater underware which he insists on changing with each movie request so he can match. What a character!

For potty training I bought a 7-pack of Disney underware. One pair is WALL-E. DS has never seen the movie, although we own it. Last night my parents were over for dinner, DS is rifling through the DVDs and sees WALL-E. He asks to see the "potty movie." Go figure!

I have no kiddos, but one day my niece, who was almost 3 at the time... well she was visiting grandma's house. And she had been playing quietly with some blocks in the living room for about an hour, and she said "Grandma, I want to watch a movie."" To which grandma replied, "Ok, but you have to clean up the blocks first." My niece stood up, outraged, crossed her arms, scowled, and said "I don't have to clean up anything, I'm the guest."

Grandma replied "You're no guest at Grandma's house, clean up the dang blocks."

That was the first and last incident. lol

the driving one brought this to my memory. I was driving along the interstate one day and just mentioned "wow, I have a bad headache" my four year old foster daughter pipes up from the back seat, "well, I am just sitting back here doing nothing, let me know if you need me to drive".

My 2.5yo daughter saw the Disney movie Pinocchio a few weeks ago. That was around the same time she toured the "school" she will be attending. For a couple of weeks after that, every time the topic of school came up, she would say "I'll tell the teacher I don't want to be a donkey." I'd say she is motivated to pay attention in class . . . .

A lesson in how being a lazy parent can come back to haunt you:

We sometimes "bribe" DS into behaving while running errands or doing other adult chores by promising to stop at Target on the way home and getting him a new matchbox car. Yesterday we went to Target just because we needed a few things they had on sale and after a walking around the store for a while DS states "I go get a new car" and we said, no, we are not getting a new car here today. And he responds "Was I bad? I didnt do good listening? I sorry" I guess we have him conditioned like a pavlovian dog that target = toy as long as he is good.

For several months my, then 12-18 mo. old, daughter would think my underwear were hats and put them on her head. This happened a few times, as I was sorting the laundry to wash - yes before they were washed! After laughing my head off and thinking "this just isn't right, on so many levels" I had to hide all my underwear before they were made into hats.
