New Jersey Birth Certificate
Anyone from NJ have any experience applying for your child's BC? I have the papers but have a few questions about the form itself and was hoping someone else has done this. We have not readopted but did a legal name change (for my son's middle name only) about a year ago.

I hope you are well. We are from NJ and adopted a child from Russia 3 yr. ago. We originally werent going to do a readoption so I sent in papers and got my child's birth certificate from Trenton. After talking to other parents on this forum I decided to do a readoption just to make sure things are secure. That is done through the county surrogate's office. If you have any questions in more depth, feel free to PM me. I will have to remember where I went online to get the papers without the readoption but I will most likely be able to pull up the page for you without too much hassle. Best, Amy K, NJ

We live in Burlington County. We readopted last year along with a name change. The attorney we used also got us the bc within a few weeks. We originally were going to do the readoption ourselves, but I just couldn't deal with more paperwork. The county surrogate's office did provide us with the forms, but after looking them over, we thought it best to make sure everything was done correctly. We did the readoption/name change at the same time that we did our wills---we were cut a break by doing it all together.

Hi Kathy,
We just finished the process about 3 months ago and found it very easy. We didn't use an attorney, I just re-typed the forms that I got from the surrogate's office. We only had to pay a $175 filing fee to readopt both of our children at the same time (we live in Burlington County).
