Chipped Tooth - What do I do?

So it is Saturday morning and DD was in the tub sitting down and somehow pulled her head forward and hit her tooth on the tub.... It's small - I didn't even notice it until I told my husband and he examined her....

I'm so upset - she did not bleed - only cried a tiny bit and she is running around - and has eaten and drank... so what do I do? I don't know of a weekend kids dentist and she is acting normal.

DD is 3.

PLZ advise....

You call your regular dentist - they may have an emergency line and leave a message. it will need to be looked at and calling now will likely get you an early Monday appointment if they don't have an emergency line.

Also, call you ped and let them know- they have an emergency line for on call doctors and they will have some advice for you.

My daughter chipped a very small bit of two front teeth when she was a baby, but it ended up being purely cosmetic and the dentist said nothing was to be done. (And it wasn't even majorly noticeable, but it just killed me that she had done that!) I would guess if it is more than cosmetic that there is something they could do, but better call a pediatric dentist and just have them take a look to be sure. Sometimes if a tooth gets hit hard, after several weeks the tooth will look black. Sometimes it means the root has died and the tooth has to be pulled. Sometimes it means there was bleeding inside that dried up and after afew months it disapates and everything is fine (and the tooth doesn't need to get pulled). Go get a consult and I bet you'll feel better about it. Glad your little one seems to be okay. <3

Poor baby. I'll also chime in and say that you might want to take her to a ped dentist and have it examined. Better to be safe. Our son took a chunk out of his front tooth at 18 months and the dentist said it needed to be pulled. It was a difficult ordeal but it ended up OK.

My friend's ds did this and nothing was done. My cousin's ds did this and the teeth (two in front) became impacted and were removed.

You should probably have it examined eventually, but it probably isn't a big deal.
