I was wondering if anyone knew of if there was any hope of Guatemala re-opening... and if so, what type of timeframe that might happen in? I know they are going through law changes. Does anyone have any idea what type of changes are typical with Hague adoptions? We adopted our daughter 4 years ago, so obviously under the old regime of laws. I'm just curious what is likely to change (process and even costs).. And just really hope they open again. Not only because I feel drawn to adopt from there again, but for all those children waiting while these laws are hammered out and have no family to care for them.

Maybe a prayer thread for the re-opening of Guatemala with the proper laws in place to protect the children, but help them find their forever families, is in need?

I heard form my agency that it will be at least 2011 before anything is decided as to whether Guatemala is open. Until Guatemala and the US actually lay out the steps US parents need to take- there is no point in speculating what the process might look like or when it might happen.

All I can say is if the mess that so many of my friends are going through just trying to get their kids home that were "grandfathered" can't be resolved then how will the ever open adoptions up again.
