Question Reinstated I600A - Know anyone who's done it?

Hi all. I have been trying to have my expired I600A reinstated and have been told by a few folks that it has been done before. The group in D.C. that is helping me by working with their USCIS contacts says it would be easier if I can show that it HAS BEEN done before. Has anyone, or does anyone know one of the families who has already had an expired I600A reinstated? If so, please send me an email. It's so very appreciated!

Thanks,
Kathy

Have you spoken with your state senator about adovcating on your behalf?

I know I have seen one or maybe two people post on here about sucessfully reinstating their I600A/171H but it wasn't anyone I knew. (In real life or here.) At one time it was totally impossible (and in general I think it is) but it has been done based on posts here. It just stuck in my mind because I was shocked the managed to do it. I believe it was through the involvement of their state senator.

You might take a look through the Immigration & Naturalization forum and International Adoption Support forum and see if you find anything there. I just don't remember where I read the posts by the person/people who were successful. I wish I could suggest more!

Good luck!

One other thought . . . Check the forums on Guatadopt and contact Kevin there. If anyone can give you any insight, it would be him.

Thank you. I have been through my senator's office and after three months of waiting they had nothing for me but one short phone call saying they couldn't help. I'll try your other suggestions for site. Thanks so much for the note. Kathy

Definetly try Kevin again. And maybe PM him here as well. His screen name is KevinK.

Also bump this up again on Monday. The Forums are usually pretty quiet on the weekend but pick back up on Monday. Someone is bound to know something!

Yes, Debbie you know US!!!!! Ours was an absolute mess and a very long story...but in a nutshell, where we were already in process with one child and did an addendum to change the I-171h to incl another child....the USCIS never did do it...and I didn't find out until it was due to expire!!!! It took 2 appeals, and the friend of a friend to make a call for us, but we finally won the appeal and got the clearance amended/extended.

Also, what about the JCIS? They were working with USCIS for quite a while last year on an agreement to extend clearances for all of us...have you contacted anyone from there?

I didn't realize yours had actually expired, though I knew you were fighting for it to be renewed/extended/amended. Sorry! Advancing senility in my middle age!

Could you PM her? She did find one other family whose 171H had expired completely and PMed them, but I am sure she could use your help too!

Good point about JCIS too!

Yes I think ours had technically already expired by the time we got the 2nd appeal to go thru. I know we found out about the failure to amend in January'09, and it was set to expire in Feb'09...and I think it was April by the time we won the 2nd appeal and got a new one (amended/extended). So I guess we were expired for a little over 2 mts? But, we were in appeal status, I wonder if that makes a difference? I will go back and check the dates b/c I'm sure they would be just that picky!!

Ahhhh, yes. USCIS. Picky. Details. Well, there is nothing I can say that you haven't experienced unluckly.

In talking with Kathy via PM, I am sure she would take any information you can give her.

Thanks Guatemom I'd love any details just so I have some examples to show USCIS. My first response was that it had never been done. I so appreciate that you're willing to share your story. I'll send you a PM. So grateful!

Hopefully Guatmom's struggles with USCIS can help you! She has been through the ringer with them!
