San Diego Suggestions?

We are planning a family vacation to San Diego in October. We know we want to do the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. We will be there for 5 days. What other things should we do while we are there? Keep in mind that Kate is only 2!

Where should we stay?

Thanks!
Kim

I liked the old town although it was fairly touristy. if you go for all that really fancy shopping (Like the stores with the 2000 dollar watches and so on - probably not fun for a 2 yr old either) they have all that as well. And, they have tons of fun outdoor activities in the area!
The zoo is really good and we had a great time but I was slightly disappointed because I thought it would be the best zoo in the world and it's not!

We loved the Wild Animal Park. It is outside of San Diego - about 30 miles from the Zoo - but worth the drive. You get to see the animals in a more "natural" setting.

What about Legoland? I hear it's a great place to take the little ones. You can also visit the seals residing in the Children's Pool in La Jolla shores. Also, Balboa Park, which is right next to the zoo, is a nice place to stroll around. There's even a carousel, a children's train ride, and a model train museum in the park. Speaking of the zoo, they just recently opened a new elephant exhibit which is worth visiting.

If you want to stay near SeaWorld, I cannot recommend the Residence Inn Mission Valley highly enough. We found it to be perfect for a family trip. You can get a suite with a separate 'kids bedroom' if you like. The bedroom has small beds for the kiddos and a little table and chairs. The service was flawless. It's about 2 miles from SeaWorld and the beaches.

If you want to stay closer to LegoLand or on the beach, I recommend SeaBreeze Vacation rentals in Carlsbad. We recently stayed in a condo there and it was awesome. It was a short walk down a ramp to the beach. The end of October is one of the cheaper seasons to rent there.

Have a great time. There are few places we enjoy more than San Diego.

Hi there,
We were there in March. Legoland is super cool, but our little guy (19 months at the time) was too small for the large majority of the rides. I think it's more suited for the 4-5 year age range if you want them to be able to go on most rides. The aquarium connected to it (Sea Life) was really great and he loved it!

Have fun!

Hi - I would recommend the Catamaran Resort as it is directly on the bay and across the street from the ocean. They have little paddleboats you can rent for use on the bay. They have a nice restaurant that is kid friendly. Have a great time!!

We have annual passes to the Wild Animal Park/SD Zoo and Veronica loves the Wild Animal Park! There is a little petting zoo area that she adores! It might be chilly but go to the beach and play around too! We go to Disneyland a lot with Veronica and she enjoys all the small rides and of course Mickey Mouse. Have a great time!!!!

Funny you say it might be "chilly" in October. Ummm, we live in MN. It was 48 degrees yesterday in JUNE! So, I think we can handle San Diego "Chilly"!
