It's been so long... but we didn't re-adopt. In NC you don't have to. We did a name change in Cumberland County at the courthouse. Then we got the new BC's (Certificate of Foreign Birth) from the State's Vital Statistics. They needed all the paperwork I had (including the Protocol). We didn't have any issues and it cost less than $100. PM me if you have a question about this part of the process.

I dont know that Im going to be much help to you, but we re-adopted in NC - Charlotte (Mecklenburg County). I believe that we did have to do the re-adoption. Our agency has a woman on staff who works on the re-adoption paperwork so all we had to do was take it downtown. We didnt have any problems with them taking our Protocolo. PM me if you would like, but it has been so long...

Whether or not you have to re-adopt in NC depends on the type of Visa. IR3 visas do not, but IR4 visas do have to adopt in order to obtain citizenship and to comply with the INS guidelines. If you contact your home study agency they should be able to help you get it done with relative ease.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

We live in Wake County and we had to request the original paperwork from the point of entry (Houston) of where his permanent resident came from. We did go down to the Wake County clerks office and got 3 different responses on what we had to do. Once we got the originals back (took 2 mos) we were good to go. Hope this helps.
