OT: Pierced ears--did you do your daughter's?

Hello:

I just had Iva's ears pierced yesterday. She had mentioned wanting to have them done but, obviously, she didn't really understand what was going to happen!

Anyway, I asked her again yesterday while we were at the mall and she nodded that she wanted it. So we did.

She didn't even cry! What a brave kid!

Anyway, afterwards I sort of felt bad for permanently changing my child's body just because I thought it would be cute. Which it is!

Have you pierced your daughter's ears and why (or why not)?

BTW, when Iva was going through the process in Guatemala, the facilitator said that the fostermom wanted to pierce Iva's ears and she (the fostermom) wanted to know if that was okay by me. I said, "Yes!" but obviously the fostermom never got around to it. This incident makes me think that pierced ears in children are common in Guatemala.

I have not done my DD's because as you said-it's her body-I'm going to let her decide. I suppose it also has something to do with me not being allowed to do it until I was old enough to decide-12 or so I think.

I do have a lot of Hispanic friends and I think they all have their kids ears pierced.

I will be waiting until my daughters are old enough to make a mature decision about it.

But many folks around me and on this board have had their little girls' ears pierced. It's just not something we do in my family.

your daughter looks adorable.. i had my DD's done in Guatemala. my lawyer was very happy, she said it s very customary for little girls to have their ears pierced. my thinking was the earlier she has them done, most likely she wont bother with them. i was right, she has never touched her earings. I was glad I had thm done in Guat

Iva's earrings look adorable! My girls' ears are pierced. Carolina's were done when she was 11 months old, and Clair-Elise's at 6 mos. I'll probably have Maria's when she is 6 - 12 months old too. They do not fuss with the earrings at all, never did. We all had our ears pierced as little girls in my extended family; guess that is a cultural thing?

I think they look so pretty

Iva looks adorable in her new earrings!

I had Mollie's done in Guatemala when her fm took her for a routine check-up. She has two pair of earrings that her fm picked out for her. I reimbursed her for the expense.

My older dd's were done when she was 2 months by her pediatrician.

Dulce's were done in Guatemala by her FM. When we got home she lost an earring and she wouldn't let me put a new one in so I just took them out and now they are closed. I'm planning on waiting till she wants them done again.

We are waiting until our girls are old enough to decide for themselves. I think, at almost 2 and 3, they would mess with their ears too much.

Your daughter looks adorable!

We had Gabbie's done in Guatemala. We asked her foster mother on a visit trip if she wanted to get them done and she was so excited she even teared up a little! Shortly after we left she took her to the pediatrician and got them done. She was about 4 months old. She has NEVER messed with them and loves them. I have yet to change the earrings though because the ball backs they use in Guatemala are excellent and have never fallen off! Also, it is a piece of her foster mother who we love and appreciate so much. I figure if by some odd chance when she is older and decides she doesn't want them we can always remove them.

Your daughter looks adorable by the way!!! I love them!

I wish my daughter's foster mother would have done it. I even sent some earrings to her, but it wasn't done. I didn't mention it during the pick-up trip because obviously there was a lot more important stuff going on!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments about Iva! She is a cutie--as all of our children are!

My DD's cousin had her's done @ 2 y.o. and DD was only a little younger... SHE BEGGED to get earrings like her cousin. Like u I was sure she didn't understand what was involved. I made sure she knew it would hurt and then I took her to the mall and let her watch it be done. She still was SURE she wanted earrings. We even had to wait 1 hr b4 there were 2 sales clerks so they could do both ears @ same time due to her young age. With me inquiring periodically throughout that 1 hr period. She never waivered.
She sat still for them and didn't cry until it was over and she teared up a little. She even reminded me each night to turn / clean them.

She is 4 now and still loves her earrings. She likes to wear different ones and match her outfits occasionally.

I wasn't ever opposed to her getting earrings whether by FM or when she decided but wasn't expecting her to decide @ younger than 2

I took both of my girls to get their ears pierced when they came home....one was 4.5 months at the time and the other was 8 months old. They both cried for a minute and then they got a bottle and were happy as could be.
Neither of them have ever really messed with them, probably since they have had them since they were infants.
If when they are older they decide they don't "like" pierced ears, they can simply take the earings out and that's that. For now, they look so cute with their earings.
Your daughter looks so cute with her new earings.

I was hoping my DD's fm would do it, but she never did. She came home at 16mos and I thought it would scare her to get it done, so we haven't.. I'm not sure when we'll get around to it.
