We have a confirmed case of Swine Flu in our district

I teach in SWFL and we are in the district that has a confirmed case of swine flu in one of the elementary schools. It is not in my school but in a school across town. They have closed the school for a week and will be disinfecting and replaceing all air filters. While I'm not overly panicked I am concerned about this. I've read a little bit about it. My biggest concern is, of course, my own child. I worry about this virus being so close to home and having a child with asthma. We're washing our hands and trying to be careful. Anyone have any advice, words of encouragement, or medical info they could share? I'd love to hear it!

we just got a second confirmed case from the same school. There are nine other suspected cases in our district (I'm assuming the same school although they will not say). Prays for good disinfection and a speedy recovery for all involved would be appreciated.

MA has had about 6 cases confirmed as of last night however Havard Dental School has ha what is consider a "cluster" of cases still yet not confirmed. The sale of anti virals like Tamaflu have skyrocketed. I am just treating this as regular flu outbreak. It is about all you can do is keep washing your hands .

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it too much right now. Frankly I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe it is any worse than any other flu that goes around. CDC is reporting 226 lab-confirmed cases in the US and only one death, the child in Texas who came for treatment from Mexico.

Wash hands, cover mouths, etc. etc.

And be careful if you take Tamiflu--it can cause massive nausea and vomiting that might make you WISH you had the flu!

And with that said, of course you'll want to see your doctor if you or your child(ren) get ill and you have any concerns at all.

Honestly, I think the whole swine flu thing has been blown out of porportion. The media jumped on this and stirred up a frenzy, e.g. images with people in face masks and the words PANDEMIC!!! in the headline. The CDC said this morning that the swine flu appears to be manifesting just like any other seasonal flu, although they are proceeding with definite caution.
