OT: urine output question
Hi all as most of you know some of the problems we have had with Abby. We are awaiting results for a 24 hour urine study that they had us to collect for, I am wondering how much urine she should have in a 24 hour period? I don't know if this is important or not, she weighs 47 pounds.
Thanks

Her weight is very important. Adequate urine output in the hospital is measured as 1 to 2 milliliters per kilogram per hour. 47 lbs is 21 kgs, which means she should make at least 21 mls of urine an hour, or about 500 ml minimum in 24 hours. Now amount has nothing to do with quality of the urine, that is totally different. I don't know anything about the concerns you have about your daughter, hope this helps.

Urine
Thanks for responding. At the end of the 24 hours we had 250ml. We had 100 before her morning urine. So, she had more in the morning than she produced all day. So, if this is the case she produced about 50% of what she should. Does anyone know what this could possibly mean?

Could you have missed any ? 100cc for all day seems like perhaps too little. Did she not drink much that day? I am sure the docs will explain what they are looking for, sometimes it isnt the quanity just what is in the urine itself.

There was none missed. I kept her with me all day and didn't send her to school. I talked with her ped. last night. Both the VMA and HVA that they tested in her urine was 3 times more than what is normal for her age. We have our CT Scan tomorrow. Please say a prayer. They are looking for 2 different types of tumors. I am so nervous.

Of course, I will say a prayer for her. Please keep us posted.
