OT: Lost key w/ keyless entry

My son and I went to the mall yesterday and I lost my key to my car. I have searched, called, put an add on an on-line website....

My husband just called to tell me it is $270 to replace it. It has the keyless entry right on the key. Has this happened to anyone else and is there another way to replace the key without spending so much? I guess a generic key w/out the keyless entry is $100 (which still kills me).

Thanks,

my husband used to work for a dealership. He said you should go on Ebay if you have a popular car and see if you can buy it on there and then have it programed at your local dealership for not much.

It isn't documented, buy many / most vehicles have a manual method for programming the remote entry portion only.

You must go to the dealership to have the key itself programmed to your car. If you can, take yours and your husband's key with you - have them clear out the memory and reprogram with those keys in your possession only.
